Just found that the smallest aperture of my camera is f8 instead of f11 when using A or S mode. The stated f11 can only be available in M mode....

Wondering this is a design issue or just a bug will be removed in firmware updates? Don't want to live with the trouble of using M mode, in order to get a bigger DoF for the macros..... :(

I can confirm this 'feature'.

Seems daft not to have F11 in A mode at the very least!

So it has to be M mode for macro then...

Have you tested DOF difference between F8 and F11. I'll try to find time to have a bash.

Its how its always been. My trusty s9600 has a max aperture of f8 in A mode, but in M you get 9 10 and 11.

Here is a crude DOF test done with 1cm grid at my favoured zoom around 100mm equiv.

There is a slight difference at the extremes between F8 and F11 but it may not be worth the effort for most people.

F4 is show for completeness - note the drastic reduction in DOF. I have results for other zooms but they are similar.

I noticed it too. Maybe if enough of us write to Fuji about it, they'll fix it in the next update -- one can hope :)

I read in a post shortly after the HS10 was released that f8 looked like it was the min aperture before difraction set in. While I have not needed to close down the aperture that much, except when using an external flash, it does seem funny the higher apertures are not available in Aperture priority.
