F80EXR

Well IMHO...I agree with Kim...The F80 does not have as good IQ as the F70.

The HX5 output is softer and less detailed than the F80 but cleaner.
( Sony uses more NR. )
Very different outputs, but I think that it is probably a close call here.

Video... the Sony kicks butt..... big time.

Image stabilization....... the F80 seems OK.... but the Sony is fantastic.

Don't touch the F80EXR with a barge pole.

I wanted to update my F30 as I was limited to 3x zoom & 6 megapixles si I decided to by the F80EXR...BIG MISTAKE.

The F30 wipes the floor with it on ALL ISO settings, the picture quality is not a patch on the F30. I have just returned the camera back to the supplier for a full refund (it's that bad).
Here is a link showing the comparison between the 2 cameras, judge for yourself.

Nothing like some good old comparison shots to burn the house down. I wonder if the F70 would be as bad.

Yikes.

Why did you decide to buy the F80? Why not the F200? just interested, not criticising.

For the extra tele
That's why I am testing out the F70 as well. I realize that I couldn't live happily without the zoom. So far, the F70 seems to be working quite well. And the higher ISO images that I am getting don't look anything like the F80 examples that parman88 provided, so either the F70 is way better than the F80 in that departement (which I doubt), or else parman had a bad F80, or possibly even some of the settings he used were not optimized.

Anyway as mentioned, Kim L's blogs have a lot of good info about the F80 and F70. My guess is that you would be pretty happy with the F80 if you use the settings that Kim and Prime have suggested (which I am using). Or you can try to find a F70.

Good luck!

I am also looking at F200 or F80 - my reason for F80 over F200 is the HD video, as far as I know, the SD videon the F200 is far from good.

How do they btw perform in low light when recording video???
