Piciked up my backpack without realising my camera was loose. Camera went flying. Now the top control dial has disintegrated and can't be put back together. I called Olympus and all I can get is a recording telling me to call back later.

I need this camera on the 19th for a yearly event that's half the reason I bought it.

What can I do?? I've only had it since June.

Jennifer:

I'm guessing only Oly can fix it. So you need to get it to them ASAP. Just ship it overnight, following the instructions on the oly website. They usually fix them withing a few days, so it is quite possible to get it back in time. I had no trouble reaching people during business hours and everyone was very helpful.

These days they just want the camera, nothing else. So get it in a box and on its way.

Alas, the web site says 12 days turnaround time. Plus whatever it takes for repair estimate OK by me.

Are they faster than this in reality? What experiences have people had?

I can box it up and FedEx it first priority, out on Monday.

Sorry for the additional question...

Someone who has sent theirs in before -- do I need to call ahead and get an RMA or do I just ship it in along with an enclosed list of fixes I need (I think I have the dreaded full-zoom focus problem plus a firmware update would be nice) ...

... worrying this isn't fixable, and that the lens/IS mechanism might be damaged, and unfixable, and hoping it doesn't cost me TOO much ...

Maybe even higher. That's been the going "flat rate" reported here for out of warranty repairs (they won't cover drop damage). But those were for C-2100's... as an "E" class camera, they may charge more (the 2 year warranty on a C2100 is $83.95, but more than double that for an E100 at $209.95!).

If its going to cost a minimum of 284.00 bucks plus the firmware update and priority overnight shipping and you don't know if the IS motor was damaged it may be cheaper to buy a refurb from the OLY site.

Just my 2 cents worth. They did have them listed for 499.00 on the OLY site. I hope it works out ok for you.

Allan

2 UZI's.. 1 C4000.. 1 Kodak DX4330...1 B300 and a broke Canon S30.. and soon to be.. Sony DSC F717

There is no room for words , just send the camera for repair . And if you afraid about the cost ,just tell them to calculate the cost and informing you prior the repair .
Does this look fixable ... ? Especially of note is the tiny little
plastic nibs built into the actual body of the camera (hard to see
in that pic) that are apparently broken off.
