Am I correct to assume that there are no firmware updates for the 995? I know before - there was a great demand for some firmware updates.

There was a firmware version 1.7 for the 995 released on the European and Japanese Nikon sites. The firmware was intended to improve the white balance a bit. The USA Nikon site still maintains that it may be harmful to 995's sold in the US to install the firmware version 1.7 (see http://www.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1007&message=3141710 ).

Several 995 users have installed the 1.7 firmware, and have not reported any bad effects that I have seen.

You are correct. Clearly the lack of support from Nikon shows that
the 995 owners are NOT WORTHY of any support from Nikon.
Heck, even Microsoft issues updates and fixes almost daily.

But Nikon says no to US models. Some have upgrade at their own risk. Are you having WB problems? It is possible the the US firmware installed on the camera dealt with the WB problems.

I forget if it was Nikon Europe, but the 995 does have an update out there. Really helps on the Auto White Balance issues.

There was a bit of discussion over updating US models, but I've yet to hear of even one issue among the large number of us that have updated ours.

Mine's been great.

Search the news forum for the link.

If you're out of warranty then go for it. It sure works and so many has done it EVEN if they live in the states and Nikon USA claims it's not working on US-cameras (only diffrence between the US and European cameras is that the grip has another color, the charger is faster and there's diffrent stuff in the software package).

I saw a much needed improvement on the auto WB Setting both indoors and outside.

That's the most noticable for me.
What benefits did you get from the upgrade??? Thanks.

I bought my 995 in March and while I do want the upgrade for indoor auto white balance, my outdoor and natural light WB has been perfect. So I don't want that messed up. Am patiently waiting for the Nikon USA update, if it ever comes, as my camera is still under warranty.

Nikon USA site has been usless to me. Like a fake Hollywood prop. I would restructure it's purpose. To this day I don't even know why Nikon makes a different model or color grip if only to allow tracking Americans travelling abroad. eL
