I personally like the onelight way better. It is more professionally done with better content. The strobist thing is just shot at a seminar and was later released as a video and it shows. Zack Arias is awesome too.
Hey guys, has anyone got any feedback for these DVDs:

1. Strobist Lighting DVD ( http://strobist.blogspot.com/.../05/now-available-strobist-lighting-dvds.html )
2. Onelight Workshop DVD ( http://www.onelightworkshop.com/page5/page5.html )
which do u reckon is the better one if u've got both of them?
Thanks

NB: I've also posted this in the lighting forum but since i'm using nikon and couldnt find any lighting forum specific to nikon, i hope it's ok to post it here too

Content wise the strobist DVD is amazing. Yeah it's a seminar, but you learn a LOT by viewing it. David also provides additional tutorials (on location). Total of 8 dvds- i think it's a bargain.

Zack's DvD is awesome. It's something you'll watch more than once. He covers everything about off camera. Highly recommend it. Another good one is Nikon's School of Lighting with Joe McNally and Bob Krist.

Have you watched both? The OP wanted a comparative view.
Yes the stobist DVD is good but the onelight is at a diffrent level.

Yes I have watched both. Zack's DVD is good too, but I found strobist much better. It does not have the slick production value of Zack's DVD, but it contains more information (atleast for me).

It seems I log on immediately after you post. LOL...

Yeah we can agree to disagree. That's what makes the world so wonderful- different perspectives!!!

I have seen both and would go with onelight by ZA. Both are good dvds, but after watching onelight first, I found Zach's explainations better and more straight forward. It really gives you a good foundation.

thanks for the input guys, more feedbacks are still welcomed though

there are different opinions but i guess onelight is a little bit in front by simple head count.

another question would be does one cover more stuff than the other or are they pretty much the same just different presentation style?
cheers

BTW which one has got more practical stuff on what happens when the photog is out in the field shooting?

I have both and watched Strobist first, followed by OneLight. The principles presented are similar but complementary, and I found both series helpful in starting with off-camera lighting.

As others have said, OneLight is a more polished presentation than Strobist, but because the Strobist video is so low-key (no pun intended) after watching it I felt that hey, I can do this, too. If I had watched OneLight first, I think I'd have felt a bit more intimidated. That says more about me than the videos, though, and with either series you can't go wrong. I bought OneLight only after I'd had some success using the techniques I learned from Strobist and had wanted to sharpen my skills.
