My son went to his 1st swimming lessons today

Let's see, the swimming instructor told me to only be at this certain section due to liabilities...so....

Behind me - diffused window lighting
To my right - a full blast of noonish sunshine through the window
To my front - diffused lighting further diffused by a light window tint
On top - a whole 4 rows of florescent lighting, some have seen better days
Below - well, not to mention the light bouncing back from the pool

All taken with the E-30 and 50-200 SWD, did my best as to what looks good to my eye.

They look terrific to me:

I shot for five months with the E30 and inside WB was always hopeless, so I'd shot RAW....except for No 2 you have avoided the dreaded E30 magenta hue and even then its not bad in No 2....good show you are wayyyy to fussy !

IMO, you did very, very well under the circumstances. Great captures and he is very cute.

Lovely shots of your little one. Very special

I agree about the WB problem. Did you shoot RAW?

I have fiddled with your (first) JPEG in ACR and have managed to get a much more natural look to it, I think (Got rid of the cyan/greenish cast).

I can upload it to my web site and post it here, if you like. However, I would not do this without your permission.

Alternately, I could email you my efforts, after all, it is a tiny file.

Here is my modified version. I opened it in ACR and adjusted the WB and tint; exposure; brightness; recovery (IIRC). Then opened it in PS4 and applied an USM of 30%, 2.0 pixels.

Your original for comparison:

There is still the blue/green cast from the water, but I think the skin tone on your son's face is better and more natural.

Just a rough adjustment with a very small JPEG. Hope you like it.

You should be able to achieve a far better result from a bigger JPEG (more data to work with), or preferably a RAW file. You should (IMO) always shoot RAW + JPEG, specially in this sort of weird lighting environment. After all, you can never photograph your son's first swimming lesson (or whatever) again, can you?
