Thought you might like to see what I think is remarkable.

Qulaification: My comments relate to the Fuji Tulip 720mm image only and should not be taken as an overall statement regarding the HS10's capabilities.

The Tulip shot is amazing.

First the colors. These are very diffiicult colors ( reds, etc. ) for any sensor (or film). Excellent

Here is a reference copy of the Fuji Tulip image on which I indicate three
crops and show them at 100% at 792 pix x 726 pix.
The crops are taken from the left, center and right of the image.
The plane of focus is the bottom half of the image, so ignore the top portions.

Reference image:

A) Left crop. Note the Pollen on the petal. - This is astonishing!:

B) Center crop. Notice the point of the petal. Fantastic!:

C) Right crop. Notice the red&white tulip, the spots of red on white, the lines.
again simply great:

No adjustments were made to these images. All jpeg crops saved as level 12 jpegs.

Conclusion: For price point, ease of reach, etc., etc., the HS10 excells at the 720 mm mark.

Hope you find this of some value.

You changed your Tune, i thought you gave up on the HS10 interesting results though personally i was confident that this camera would be a good one, so i take it you will now be buying one.

:D

Yes quite impressive indeed. Hope to see some duck shots from Alan for comparison =D. I wonder what is the zoom range sweet spot on this lens? I hope there's a couple, one at wide and one at tele.

...

As you are getting withdrawal systems like me, something to get your juices going regards Quack, sorry Alan. :D

Well here are 3 pictures taken with s8000fd at ISO 64,first at 61mm ( that is around 352mm equivalent) and the other two at 84mm (that is 486mm equivalent the maximum of the camera).

Hs10 is no way even near S8000FD not talking about S200 or about S100fs.

The images don't look natural to me, but look foggy, or like captures from a camcorder...

I wonder if some selective sharpening would help, although most of the picture is Bokeh anyways

I am still concerned about the Sensor shift IS replacing the Optical IS from the S100/200. This is critical for handheld at the long end. Or is this a tripod only camera?

100% crop of 720mm sample image with selective sharpening using PS smart sharpen. No NR treatment or others. It would have been nice if there is a bee in this sample.

Please read the threads fully before commenting.

I did not change my 'tune' as you write.

In my other thread I stated: "After reviewing the Polish images, all I can see is Sony NR.
All over the place.
I decided I will not pre-order the HS10.

The only hope for the HS10 regarding my personal photographic needs is
in the Raw files. "

I left the door open to buy the HS10 if the detail is in the Raw files. We don't know at this time.

In general, all the outdoor images i've seen from this cam, also the last ones. The indoor shots from the Thai forum look better to me, however.

The image info on the page says 126mm as does the EXIF information

126mm is probably rounded, you're right, 126mm on the HS10 would be more like about 708mm in 35mm equivalent given a 6.16mm x 4.62mm sensor having a 7.7mm diagonal vs approx 43.27mm diagonal for a 35mm (24mm x 36mm sensor)

126mm * (43.27 / 7.7) = approx 708mm

The 35 mm equiv at the tele end of the 126mm HS10 lens is 720mm.

From Fujiflm:

http://www.fujifilm.com/products/digital_cameras/s/finepix_hs10/specifications/index.html

Lens Fujinon 30x optical zoom lens, F2.8 (Wide) - F5.6 (Telephoto)
Lens focal length f=4.2 - 126.0mm, equivalent to 24 - 720mm on a 35mm camera

From dpreview.com:

http://www.dpreview.com/news/1002/10020206fujifinepixhs10series.asp#specs

Lens
• Fujinon 30x Optical zoom lens
• F 2.8- F5.6
• f=4.2mm – 126mm
• 24-720mm equiv.

You also need to factor in for aspect ratio so 126mm = 720mm.

Great presentation--thought out, well documented, convincing in it's argumentation. We need more posts like this. Anyone can shoot off the hip.
