Here are a couple photos I captured at a party. I am very new to photography and could use all and any advice. Lens was 50mm f1.8. Thank you in advance.

try getting down to eye level with the kids.

Otherwise, it looks like you captured some good memories here.

+1 to this comment, and I'll add don't be frightened to bump up the iso a bit, all these are iso200, 400 will double your shutter speed to allow more chance of getting keepers, and at very little penalty to the image quality.

Relax, have fun and try to master a few things at a time, like iso and different viewing angles, plenty of time to for learning ahead :)

Exposure wise, I like the first best. Really liked the shadow casted on her face.

Thank you guys very much. I am such a booboo. I didnt even think to up the ISO. Live and learn, agree about the eye level, for most of those shots I was sitting on a chair with the baby sitting next to me.

The first is absolutely beautiful. Try going into Photoshop and remove the chain and if possible the person on the right as we look at the pic.

Just remember with people to set the color balance to portrait. This will turn down the saturation and contast and give nice soft fleshtones. You don't want punchy, vibrant people pics.

Also make sure to always get in the habit of using fill flash when shooting people. This will add some light especially to the eye sockets so as not to get dark circles from overhead light.

Thank you very much. I only have the on camera flash at this time, and I forgot about the additional settings. I am enrolling in a photography class that starts in early April. Thank you again.
