>>> Mini Challenge #256 – Monochrome

Pavel,

As per Gail's question earlier your third picture would not qualify for the challenge (even though I love it). Would you like to swap it with your bonus picture or submit another?
Thank you for the offer, but the bonus picture contains more colours than the third one...

I actually do not like almost all B&W photos, but in my gallery there are several - I tried to rescue bad photo by conversion to B&W (blown highlights, disturbing background,...)

About Monochrome:

I think that my third picture contains only blue colour, if it is not true, than I think it contains 3.5 colours: blue, black, white + many grays :-)
There are many discussions about this problem, I do not want to start another.
The sepia is problematic too in such discussions...
And what about:

This is beauty of these challenges - one person give the rules and judge the winners, thus I respect your decision about the fitting the theme.

And I think that no one has right to change her/his nomination - it would be unfair to change the picture set according to the subsequent comments.

Thus I appreciate your goodwill, but I continue the challenge with the first two pictures.

Pavel

PS: It was not premature step - I thought that it could be a problem, but it was my risk :-)

PS2: Your words: "(even though I love it)" are big award for the picture, thus I do not regret, that it was included in my selection ;-)

Excellent set Jim! No wonder you're happy with the HDR and tone mapping! I really like the blue filter on the Caymen shot.

Thanks for your comments on my entries.

Linda

Ohh, so there's a 3 picture limit, sorry for missing this on the original post.

If you'd like I can edit my previous post and remove the extra pictures, but here's the three I'd nominate:
  • Old Chair
  • Door Lock
  • Spider Net + Spider

Thanks for this! She's even more pretty. I like how she's not beautiful in that very artificial sort of way. Yes, she's made up, but it's more like decoration than the reason for her prettyness.

As per your submissions:

I know I'm not an expert on these things and just went with a gut feeling. I recently had a big thought about upgrading to a dslr with proper lenses and stuff and came to the conclusion that my photography is more centred on the enjoyment and some experimenting side of things. If I had gotten a proper camera I'd start worring about tonal adjustments and dof and bokeh and what lense and colour intensity and all those very seriously sounding things I read about. the image quality of my pictures probably would have been better, but the quality of my images probably would not have. :) Therefore I got another small camera and my attitude will stay the same relaxed one as before. I will certainly not be able to add anything meaningful to monotone, dualtone and all those discussions. :D

I'm happy fory our very blue picture and wish you entered it, the offer is still there. But maybe if that will be the subject you could take that out again from the folder. I still love it and the pictures you take!

No problem and no problem hosting the extra pictures! I like looking at them, the bulb is especially moody. Made me think of an old, abandoned room.

If, in that last picture, the circle was a clockface, it could have a very strong message with those people rushing over it.

I looked at my pictures of our Jubilee line underground stations but they were quite crappy to post in response to our last conversation. I'll see if I can revist them (they are at the other side of town) sometime and they I'll post the pictures. But don't hold your breath. :)

Great pictures, especially the last two. I love how the postprocessing made an otherwise pretty, sunny building into a scary, foreboding one!
