Epson C82 experience?

Has any body have an experience with Epson C82?
11 ppm in color and 5760x1440 dpi for $149 sound too good to be
true...
Please advice.
Thanks

Leon, you can do a search on this forum and find additional info. I just bought a C82 5 days ago. I really like it. It is, as other posts mention, really an all-around printer. It does photos well, primarily on non-glossy photo paper but is not designed as a "photo printer". I use it mainly for text and for photos on plain, matte or bright white paper that are not "savers" or of really high quality. I now use an Epson Stylus Photo 870 for my "real" photo printing. It gives me really great, high quality prints.

Don't get me wrong, the C82 is everything I hoped it to be and more. It prints good ++ photos but the depth and overall quality for pictures is not as good as printers designed primarily as photo printers. If you want a top-quality photo printer, you might want to research the Epson Stylus Photo 960. It will be available during the first part of next month but there is info about it in this forum and elsewhere on the web. Look for the Epson Stylus Photo 950, too. It is basically the same printer and is already being sold in Europe. You can find reviews about it. Everything I have read about this printer is really good. It will have a retail price of $350. Hope this is of some value to you.

Hi Leon,

I have the C82 and the C80 plus a 2000P and a 785EPX. The C80/82 were primarily designed as SOHO printers that do a nice job on photos as well. The inks are waterproof so posters will last a while in the elements without running.

I use Matte papers most of the time by choice. I create printer profiles with EZ Color 2 for all my printers and get a bery good match.

The C80 is my office document printer and the C82 is my portable printer used for photos aboard my boat. It is compact and fast and the prints are very acceptable. For serious work I use the 2000P.

If you need a versatile printer the C82 is fine but for serious photo work look towards the 6 and 7 ink Epson printers.
My next printer will be the 7600 when it is available and I can afford it.
Sorry for the long reply but I hope it helps in your decision.
Regards, Fred

I just got the C82 last night and a few observations so far:

1. Definite "bronzing" on glossy paper.

2. Much less colorful than the Epson 740 it replaces. (At least on glossy.)

3. Paper "explodes" into the printer, but the printing process is much faster and quieter than my old 740.

4. It prints color non-photos (web pages, etc) very nicely on Epson's extra-white paper.

5. Photo quality other than color appears as good as or better than the 740.

Remember, of course, the 740 is a couple of generations old by now and wasn't a photo printer (just 4-ink), so doesn't set the bar that high. On the other hand, I've had quite a few people who were impressed with 8x10's from the 740, and the 740 used non-pigment inks which I gather are brighter.

I've noticed that the C82 inks are much improved over the C80 inks, when comparing on glossy photo papers. C82 does a better job. Rest of the papertypes, from plain to matte, look very close, if not identical to the C80.

If you want to use your C82 for glossy type prints, I strongly recommend Epson Premium Semigloss. You'll get your best results IMO on this paper if you want a glossy look to your prints.

The C82 does by far the best job out of all the printers on the market in the areas it was designed for: text and graphics. It's a fast text printer, and spits out quality colour graphics quickly as well. Does a decent job for the occasional photo you might print (again, keep in mind it was NOT designed with photo printing in mind).

Btw, the C82 replaces the C80, which replaced the 880/980 which, going back farther, replaced the 860 (model up from the 740). The 740 was replaced by the 777, then the C60 and now the C62.

One last note: although the C82 box says it can do bordlerless 4x6, the retail version of the product only does borderless on 4x6 perforated paper; it does NOT have any sponges inside to properly absorb any spillover ink from a true borderless print.

I will try this. I just got some Epson Matte Paper - Heavyweight and just love the look. I guess I've just been a fan of glossy because that's what looked best with the old 740. But matte has much more depth to the picture, I think. (I got it for $12 for 50 sheets at Microcenter.)

I'll try the Premium Semigloss to see how that looks, too. Thanks!

Actually, with the matte paper, it does a very decent job. As I said, I had people who really liked the photos I did on the old 740 and put up on the wall
.

Cool, so I stepped up to a higher pedigree while spending about half as much money as before. Sometimes the march of technology is good, eh?

Epson C82 just hit Future Shop & Longdon Drug now with a tag of CDN$239.99
DialDirect.com has it for $210 (not sure whether have to pay GST&PST)

Seems Canadians have to pay 40% more than the States.
