Drive to Ostend on sunday evening with Miel Pieters from this forum and we had again a superb evening there, the sky was just great and we also found some superb food. We met a very friendly Korean photographer from an agency who was also in Ostend for taking pictures, today he already will be back in Korea. Here are two images from yesterday, more (have to complete it in the future when I find more time) if interested from this session can be seen here: http://www.pbase.com/dievee/ostend_290902&page=2

I think the first one is outstanding, but I do feel some hesitation about it.

Did or didn't you use a bit of PS help ? I know late light can make the world look very differently, but th epoles do show up in a very strange way.

Well I still do lik eit very much, as it gives some very strange feeling to the observer, well at leats to me,

jacques.

Hi Dirk,

It seems that I am in agreement with others that the first of this group is outstanding. A magnificent example of the skillful use of lighting, composition and color to produce a photograph that most would pass by and never even see. Once again, the "invisible man" has been revealed.

Great colours and sly Dirk, my favorite is the one of the old man
lit with the last light of evening, the colours are very warm and
saturated, also the composition are great just in your unique tele
style--

Hi Martin,

Thanks very much, I like to take pictures at the end of the early evening when there is still some blue in the sky and then using the mixed lights and the contrasts from the very yellow street lamps.

Dirk

Hi Jacques,

No PS didn't really was needed, the only thing I do was a bit of USM after resizing and degrading a bit the yellow color in the foreground as the street lamps are giving a very warm yellow tint. I think that the effect is coming from the strange effect provided by the contrast from the yellow against the dark blue background, something that the camera see more intense then our eyes, we are not so good in capturing the color temperatures as a camera or we are not conscieus enough of it.
With very kind regards,

Dirk

Hi Arnaud,

Thanks very much for your very kind words and appreciation and taking so much time to go trough my Pbase gallerie (have more then 2500 images there for the moment and still have to process hundreds more if I find time). I like the image you referred to also very much but I was asking myself if I didn't have to remove the jet trail or clone it to the other side to get a kind of light moustache as the man that I photographed there make very surrealistic pictures, I learned to know him on PhotoSig and met him for the first time in real life that evening and made some shots of him.

With very kind regards,

Hello Hugh,

Thanks for the kind words, this evening I met another photographer, this time someone from Mexico, funny to make all these contacts with photographers from around the world.

Love the first one Dirk.

Morris
Hi Morris,

thanks very much, I also like that one very much, I was following that man with my 80-200 zoom and as I had to use longer exposures I said the whole time, stand still, stand still, stand still to myself and suddenly he did and I could get this shot. Made several others while he was walking but they are to much blurred because he moved to fast.

With very kind regards,

Dirk

This one is awesome. The railing looks almost 3d.

Charles.
Hi Charles,

Thanks very much, I think that the 3D look is coming from the unusual mixed light, the yellow from the street lamps contrasting with the dark blue from the late evening light.

With very kind regards,

Dirk

Hi Rob,

As there was not much light I was using a tripod and my 80-200mm zoom and the man was walking but I was saying in myself, stand still, stand still, stand still and suddenly he stood still for 2 seconds and oh I was so glad again that I buyed that joystick head for my Manfrotto tripod so that I could focus and make a composition in a fraction of a second, so I could get the shot that I wanted. I've noticed the nice effect of the very yellow light from the street lamps contrasting with the dark blue sky of the later evening, a color combination that I like very much as it provides strange images. Camera's are better then our eyes in capturing differences in color temperatures. Thanks for the kind comment and appreciation.
