After market batteries incompatible with D90?

Some batteries have issues and some don't.

Why don't you share what is the issue with your camera and which battery you have?

'Sorry-

But you are going to have to be a bit more specific. What battery are you talking about? Where did you get it? etc.

Generally speaking I have never had a problem with an EN-EL-9 generic battery.

The batteries are generic 2000mAH batteries that I purchased from a vendor in China, off of Ebay, the problem I have is that that the camera will not turn on, it shows a blinking low battery indicator on the top LCD panel, and that's it, even tho the battery is fully charged, this battery did work with my D200.

Some batteries sold as replacements are not compatible with the D90, for example the battery Radio Shack sells as a replacement does not work.

One that I use is the Belkin 1600ma/hr battery. It works identically except a little higher capacity than the Nikon version.

I don't have a D90, but I do have experience with aftermarket knock-off
EN-EL3e batteries. Some even have higher mAh ratings, but every kind
I've tried died in a year or less. It's false economy not to stick with the
Nikon branded batteries.

Incidentally, Best Buy is a lousy place to get them: they list at $59.99 there !!!
They don't stock the corresponding 18a charger, fortunately.

Got one Nikon and one $30 noname and they're about the same. Didn't want to try the $9 ones though.

There are certain EN-EL3(e) batteries that do work with D80 but not with D90.

Had an Ansmann replacement for my Canon S60. Lasted less than the original from the start (as declared), but degraded pretty much the same in 4 or so years. Now I got a cheapo replacement and the camera is useful again.

I just read on the net that Nikon has reported a "rash" of after market battery explosions. They are also considering or implementing a hologram print on their batteries to try and prevent counterfeit knock offs. Besides the danger of an exploding camera (!) this would obviously not be covered by warranty. Something to think about.

Why not just use genuine Nikon batteries? I consider my D90 too expensive to risk on a battery that cost a few bucks less.

Exactly. I never get the point of that, to save $5 or $10 and possible have problems with your body that won't be covered if under warranty. Many of those (not all) off brands don't last as long or have other issues.
