Color Compulsion

You take some of the most beautiful photos of all...thank you for your talents.
Very nice Judy! I've been looking forward to people's foliage
shots, and knew you'd come up with some great ones.
Inspiring.....
I particulary like "almost yellow", "vein shadows", and "pinacle".
Ed. (The leaves are just starting to turn here -- I'm ready for it)

Judy, these are beautiful. Hope I can do half as well when we get more color around here. Isn't it nice to live where there's a change of seasons?

Thanks for this tip. It is what I'm working on, thanks to help from Frank and Greg. Think I also need to switch from early morning to late afternoon shots for softer lighting. Very, very nice photos. Joan
I like to shoot the leaves in late afternoon when the sunlight is
coming from the side and shining through the leaves. Most of these
leaves are backlit. Autumn leaves are quite a bit more translucent
than green summer leaves.

I used EV -0.3 to -0.1 on most of these. Then I adjust curves in
Photoshop to brighten the dark areas.

Okay. Confession time. I've been compulsively squirreling away
photos of autumn leaves to keep my color addiction going through
the long, snowy winter ahead.
Well done Judy, what a breathtaking setting you had to work with. Being a color fanatic myself I esp love the first one. I've been away from the forum for awhile; your pictures were a great reminder of why I needed to come back. Thanks for sharing your lovely photos!

Thank you Joan. I guess morning or afternoon lighting would depend on the humidity and haze where you live. It's usually dry and clear here.

I should have added that I never use flash on plant close-ups. I like the way natural light models the form of the plants.

Hi Muriel,
Thanks for your comments.

Yes, I didn't appreciate the changing seasons as photographic material until I started viewing the photos of people who live in the tropics. It must be just awful to have to look at all that green year 'round! LOL!

Thanks, Rita. Forum participation can get awfully time consuming but it's a great way to get inspired.

I took a look at some of your photos -- love your "my favorite mistakes" gallery. Time for me to go out and make some mistakes! :-)
