Would like to post a pic, but it doesn't seem to work by copy/paste, also I don't want to eat up a bunch of space on the server (1 meg +). I have Photoshop. What is the best/ most friendly/ correct way to do this? -m

You need an external server to put your photos.
In a message, simply put the url to the photo:

"

" (just remove the "")

Try to open a gallery in http://www.pbase.com and put your images there.

Here's a post I did in June:

I've been asked by several people about this and sent them e-mails. Now someone has asked me to post info. So here it is. Any suggestions of an easier way would certainly not upset me.

ADDING PHOTOS TO FORUM VIA PBASE - MY WAY (I’M SURE THERE ARE OTHERS)

I’m sure most of you save all your original photos, so some of this info may not seem necessary, but I don’t want to be blamed for lost originals. Did it myself once. Now I save originals on a CD.

(This is how I do it because of the program I use to change photo size.)

First, save the photo you want to put on the forum in a size about 4x6 (480x640) or 800x600. Larger ones take a long time to download for people like me without DSL. Be sure to save it in a different folder or give it a different name so you’ll still have your original photo. I save mine in a folder called ‘480size’.

Then go to http://www.pbase.com and sign up. It's free, but donations are accepted and that would be a nice thing for you to do. Instructions are given on naming your album, etc.

Where indicated, upload your picture. (Takes a few minutes to upload and have the thumbnail set up.) Usually the thumbnail will show the photo is available in several sizes: small, medium, large, original. The medium or large is good to select because it will give you a decent size photo on the forum. Open the photo and click the right mouse button on the picture. A box will open; click "properties". A new box will open on the left. Copy (control c) the URL address starting with “http” all the way through the end, including the .jpg. Go to the forum, type your message, and where you want your photo to show, paste the URL (control V) and the photo’s URL (http name) will appear. Then, hit the PREVIEW button at the bottom of the message to make sure your message is just the way you want it. If the message and photo appear properly, click on “Post”. Otherwise, click on ‘Edit’.

This data includes some help from other forum readers. If you don’t include the .jpg as part of the URL, the person who clicks on the http name will be directed to your pbase site to see it. Including the .jpg as part of the URL opens the photo right in the forum.

Hi Muriel,

Will it work from photosig or does it have to be PBASE?
Thank you.

Thank you so much Muriel, I have been looking for this info for a long time. It seems to be so much easier just to post a picture here rather than have someone go to a web site to see it. However, if there were a large number of pictures, it would be best to use the URL.

Yes, if you are posting many shots, it would be more considerate to simply post the link to where they may be viewed then to have someone (especially if they have a slow, dialup connection) to stumble upon the thread, open it up and then have to wait five minutes before they can even move on.

Generally, people will post one or two special photographs in here. Do not post the original file size!! Try and be considerate of bandwidth and people's patience and post at most, an 800 x 600. You can always tell them that if they'd like to see a larger file, they may go directly to your site.

Happy posting :)
