First Reaction-Nikon Coolpix P100 delivered today

Thanks for posting!

The last image looks overexposed, but other than that it looks decent for ISO 800.
Can you please post some photos at the both ends of the zoom?

Here are the full wide and full zoom shots. There are others now added to my Gallery and I did start a thread "Nikon P100 Test Shots" and included a shot from a G11 and a Panasonic GH1. The Nikon hangs in very well against the Panasonic generally, but large blowups of mid tones start showing Panasonic's big sensor advantage. The little Nikon gets 2 to 3x closer in macro and seems to have better depth of field.

paragraph into perhaps two to four paragraphs. It makes it easier to read rather than rambling on sentence after sentence in one straight paragraph. Thanks...

Thanks for posting them.

Is there anyway way to change the noise reduction settings? How about the sharpening?

I haven't found any sharpening options. It does offer noise reduction - on/off, distortion control ?on/off, and what they call D lighting. D lighting preserves more highlight and shadow detail, could be really nice since it is easy to bring the contrast up where wanted.

I really didn't want to open Pandora's box with all the possibilities for in camera adjustments and post production. Hope this all helps. My best guess today is that it is easily on a par with the other smaller sensors despite the mega zoom range.

Can you pretty please post some shots with the NR off and distortion correction off? This is the closest thing to RAW, and I'd love to see some shots before totally writing this camera off my list.

The reason why I ask is that my Canon SD980 produces really nice pictures in RAW mode (with CHDK) than it does in JPG mode. The sensor itself is not bad with good light, but the NR and distortion correction kind of ruins it.

My fluid head finally arrived and I started testing the Nikon. A helpful reader had already commented on the slow focus follow when zooming during a video. Unfortunately he was right on. The camera looses focus, then catches up for a moment, then looses it again. Result is I don't have the camera anymore, I returned it. Sorry, a lot of effort in a sweet little camera otherwise.

Is this thread still about the original complaint about the USB battery charging? Me, I welcome the USB charging - have you gone on holiday recently with your phone, ipod, nintendo DS and your cameras? You need a spare bag just for the chargers. Thank you Nikon for using a USB charger! That's 1 charger less.
