FM3A - Love This Classic Beauty

Yes. I probably would not go for the 70-200 VR. For the moment, my primes lenses are sufficult to cover my requirements. Maybe I would consider two more lenses later, ie. the 60/2.8 micro and 135/2 DC.

I got the FM3A actually imples I probably also don't upgrade my D1x to the full frame DSLR... it is not worth for the upgrade... and in some case, I like the 1.5x cropped factor... :D

shooting scene under in day and night? I just finished 2 rollsl of film today for some scene shot under direct sun light and found I generally got -0.5EV - 1 EV underexposed... though the image are sharp. Still need more practice...:D

Thank you... I am still learning and try to develop my practice on this SLR... it is totally another kind of fun that I need to take care EVERY THING before release the shutter, every shot must be WELL PLANNED or I just lost my cash without any return... :D

I've been using my FM3A for the past couple of days to take
advantage of my full frame 16mm fisheye (The surprisingly good
Russian Zenitar 16mm). It's a joy to use and, for me at least,
it's important to keep my mechanical skills in tune.

not as good as expected.... it is pastic, the bulit quality is not good enough, the overall design is not consistent with the FM3A, it looks cheap and breaks the solid feel of the FM3A... : (

And it is too costly, the base with the vertical release cost around USD 350. I won't get this at that price level...as I intended to use the FM3A mainly for static sences shoots.

Uselly I load slide in F90X, BW Tmax in FM2, I didn't take much of film any more, I did't think film has any edge over D1X.

For slide, one thing is for wide angle, also sometime the color is more rich and solide than D1X, and it is challenge, no post edit on PS.

I have the fun of BW Tmax film since school time, I like to develop BW film myself.

BW and slide are other dimensions for me.... haa... excited to explore in these areas. By the way, do you have a preference scanner for slide scan?

Thank you... :D

I have a Nikon Super Coolscan 4000 and love it. I was scanning some negs today (something I have done very little of since I picked up a D100) and am reminded of how good the images are from this machine. I had an LS 2000 prior to this and the 4000 is definitely superior in both resolution and detail.

Take the battery out, I can imagine this is very challenging... but this forces us to open our own eyes and sense to explore a new dimension... the real fun of this classic beauty.

I tried my father's Coolscan IV ED with Fuji Provia 100-F slides I took with my own FM3A. The scanner doesn't exhaust the capabilities of this film, so the Coolscan 4000 may make sense, even if it is twice the price.

There are some rules of thumb that allow you to do this. The most famous is "sunny 16" (in sunny conditions, the aperture to use for ISO NNN film at 1/N is f/16. For instance, you would use ISO 100 film at 1/125s at f/16 (or 1/250s at f/8, and so on). Many film cartons will have equivalent rules of thumb printed inside.

Thank you for the idea.

Maybe the best is I should forget everything and only use BW and contrast to photography on this classic body....:D
