Haven't made any official announcements yet as this is just part 1 of a bigger improvement (lots of new features on the way)...

However we've now standardised colour schemes, fonts and sizes across the site. We've "depreciated" (try not to use) and colour tags throughout the site, moving everything to more efficient and easier to use CSS style sheets.

I've also completely re-designed and re-written the forums backend (and database) which was upgraded just a few hours ago, that's nothing you'll see but means we'll get better performance out of the hardware we have (which is even better as we're upgrading the hardware in a week or so).
Has anyone here noticed the improvements that Phil has been experimenting
with and making to the Forums section?

Quite nice, IMO. Very helpful.

Way to go Phil! Keep up the good work.

That wouldn't be the reason that all my visited links are now in the
same color as ALL the regular links?

I hope not since now I have no way to know which ones I have read.

I doubt this is it but I'm mentioning it in case it happened while making changes.
Other links on the web seem to behave normally but not in here.
I haven't investigated further though but this happened about a week ago
or so.

Phil, I am curious as I'm right around Charlotte, NC.

How come you have so many banner ads from Charlotte. YOu are NOT from around here are you? I got the impression you were in Asia with all the asian pics in your galleries.

As the matter of fact, I was just over to Quality Chrome the other day and just saw their banner.

In case you don't know by the way, NICE SITE!

:)

Hhhmm, you're right George. I thought its just my browser, that I might have accidentaly changed some settings. Thanks for posting your observation here at the forum.

Could it be that advertisers have your profile by reading your cookies ?

I'd guess that my advertising broker (FlyCast) have profiled your ISP and know where you're coming from thus serve you with local ads. I'm based in the UK and I get UK ads... It's quite easy really.

Navigator 4.73. Links that have been read used to be of different color, now they're all the same (read and unread).

Follow-up. I checked other sites, my browser is fine, unread links is of different color than read ones.
Phil, what's supposed to be the right colors ? It might be my eye. :)

Teddy -

Here is what the colors should look like. It works fine for me. IE5.01

I mentioned to Phil that the colors all seemed to be the same for a while, but that was a couple of days ago. Things have been just peachy for me since. :)

Notice at least a couple of things. Besides the Preview button (yay!!), you can see the color scheme for the Forum, read and unread messages stand out quite differently now more so than in the past, and quotes of quoted messages are also shown in a different color. These things help a LOT with readability and understandability as not everyone uses the correct protocols when responding to messages.

Looking forward to seeing all the extra goodies to come. I'm sure they'll make the site even more useful once you've tweaked them to your normal standards of perfection. =)

Thx for the constant work you do.

It appears that the changes affect the color tags in Navigator 4.01 and later but not IE 5.0 or later…

I've tried both browsers simultaneously on an IMac DVSE using both OS 9.04 and running Windows also and verified this.

Also the active underline feature (auto underlined text wherever cursor is pointed) doesn't
appear in Netscape…but makes it's welcome appearance in IE 5.

Sometimes all the guidance is necessary and welcome !

Phil,
You should include spelling checker. I really miss it.

Man, am I glad you said that. I was freaking out here trying to find out what I did wrong. I mean, I'm a webdesigner so I shouldn't have these problems and I did check all my settings. As a matter of fact, I even made a test page to see if the visited links change and they sure did.

Didn't really relish the though of everyone jumping me and throwing digital cameras at me for trying to insinuate that you had done something. (Well, maybe not the 505V owners, they've waited too long for their cameras. :)
Especially not considering how advanced this site really is. Good backbone Phil.

I DO know how simple it is to make ONE simple change without noticing it but I never much like the idea of telling people about it.

Glad you took it the right way. Again, I love the site. Keep up the good work.

Come to think of it, I was really having problems keeping up with links on the thread I started that had 133 messages on it. It started getting hard to find the latest messages on it. :)

Sorry Teddy and Phil,

I read Teddy's post so fast I thought it came from you (Phil).

So if you didn't do anything and it's our browsers, please disregard the message and if was your settings, then it stands. I still like the site and I still can't figure out why the visited links don't change colors anymore.

:)

Man, I've got my head up my
