This is not a scene I have posted before. I just seem to migrate to the same locations year after year to take my snapshots. This was an especially lovely time of the year for photography. I usually just keep the MP in this camera mid range as I do not need large image files to get a reasonable image from this camera. I used Topaz Adjust for the HDR colors from a single image. Enjoy. Sorry if the file size is too large. Gary N W SFO

Lots of great details in this one Gary, & the layers of the scene pulls me right into it....the water birds(ducks?) swimming caught my attention as well. :)

Dan.

nice shot, it seems like you havent have needed HDR though???? would be interesting to see this at sunrise or even sunset haha

Hi Gary,

A really peaceful image...it appeals to me with the blue-green-blue vertical tonal range transfer.

Thanks for sharing!

A very fine shot Gary, nicely framed and well exposed. 5mgs is truly sufficient with a nice piece of glass...after all F70/F200 seem to be at their best at 5-6mgs. rick

Thanks for viewing and commenting. I do appreciate it Dan.

I see you are doing just great with your F30. Hard to beat those cams. Nice seeing you back here, too.

Hi Thomas,

It appears that you might be a fellow trekker. Nevertheless I appreciate you viewing my image and commenting. I decided to use HDR just to jazz up the scene a little and enhance the natural colors of the area without overdoing it. I have hundreds of images of just mono lake alone @ sunrise and sunset. Sometimes it is just wise to introduce one or two at a time so it does not become a drag for those that wish to see a variety of images.

Thanks very much for viewing and commenting.

Kind regards and hope to see some of your images soon.

Hi Yanko,

You are a Dear Friend and I especially enjoy hearing from you and viewing your own images which are always most outstanding. I do appreciate hearing from you and that you viewed and commented on my image that is all one could ask.

I hope You and Your Wonderful Family are all well,

Warm regards, Gary N W SFO

Hi Rick,

It is really nice to hear from you and your comments are always constructive and helpful which I do appreciate very much. All I can say is that it is very nice to have you posting here a little more and Dan is here so all we need is Lorenzo here to make a quorum.

And thanks for your very kind comment about this image. I liked it, too. I hope to see you continue to post here as you have the time and will.

All the best, Rick,

Hi Paul,

This is a very protected lake both by the state of calif. and federally. Only folks living in this area is a Brine Shrimp Fishery and a University of California study group.

There is as small town not far away called Lee Vining. And there is a visitors Center a top of a small mountain not real close but has a view of the Mono Lake. Beneath the Mono Lake is a very active caldera and there is volcanic activity all through this area all the way down into Mammoth Lakes Township.

When I take many of these scenes it is on a boat courtesy of the Fishery or often with some old friends of mine from the Univ of Calif study group. Other colleges and universities are often guests. There is very limited parking and if folks wander off on some of the dirt roads around there they could easily get caught in water because parts of this area is also a floodplain. Not many rangers or signs to warn visitors of the dirt road risks either.

I will try to find one image that might give you a better scale but usually I try to avoid photo's of autos and port a potty's. ;) What I can tell you is this area is enormous and not so easy to photograph and preserve much of a scale.

All the best Paul and thanks for viewing. Gary N W SFO

Hi Bassy,

Gosh it is really nice to hear from you. I am glad you stopped by to view my image, too.

I took a look at both camera's and all I can say is that your photographic series just keep improving. I feel these posts are among some of best posted in any forum that I have visited. Great job with both camera's and the subject matter is terrific and of much interest to Betty and Me.

Betty and I have many friend's living here near us that were once residents of the UK. So sometimes I refer them to Paul Till, Labe and some others like you that post images from where these friend's once called home. Some really miss visiting home, too.

I wish you would email me and I can explain some things to you about the KTF and why I am not posting or commenting there anymore. I tried to see if you had an email available here but I see you do not. Mine is [email protected] and we would love to hear from you.

All the best to You and Your family,

Gary and Betty W San Francisco, USA

is that a duck in the lake? The size of the lake is huge compared to it. I couldn't imagine how big it was without something to reference but seeing how small the birds are its pretty big .How big are those bushes in the background or are they trees?

also didn't mean to offend in my first post. I meant that since it looked like a perfectly good exposure and it looks as if HDR wasnt even used, maybe not even needing it. Sorry for the way I type sometime's it comes out blunt and troll sounding, but in no way did I mean to offend or talk down upon your picture. I have never seen this particular area before and it looks beautiful, I imagine it would look even more lovely at a sunset or sunrise.
Happy shootings my friend

Hey Thomas,

What you said was not the least bit offensive! You were simply questioning and commenting. Please know we all put ourselves out there for comments and suggestions. Honestly I enjoy your comments and suggestions any day of the week. Thanks for your comments and viewing my image, too.

All the best,

Gary N W SFO

Hey Thomas,

Very good questions about the birds in the lake, etc. I thought you might have been here at sometime in your travels. Basically this is a very salty lake. Few to no fish can survive in there that I am aware of. But it is a breeding lake for seagulls and occasional other specifies of birds, including some varieties of ducks and I think I saw a few geese a few years ago. But as you point out there are very far away and this lake is huge.

The other question about the trees and shrubs of the area is a good question, too. Basically you have some reasonably large trees in parts of the background and rather thick and tall shrub growth in the background near the Hiway where the small cabin and 2 story house remains.

One thriving industry in the lake is brine shrimp. They are harvested during the year and sold to users of aquariums for exhibiting exotic fish and feeding them with this brine shrimp.

If you want more specific information about the types of trees and surrounds of the Mono Lake you could Google Mono Lake, High Sierras, California, USA.

I hope this does help you envision some of the area.

All the best, Gary N W SFO
