Time to lighten it up a bit...

NO CHEATING and if you already happen to know what models I own (or peek) you're disqualified. ha ha

These are resized to 1100px W from MUCH larger files - not a perfect match, but go ahead and take a shot at guessing. SOOC other than a quick attempt to match color and exposure.

One shot from each camera...

1.

2.

Hmm...

I like the second shot more... better detail, texture and lighting... but that doesn't mean it's the better camera. It may have have been shot from slightly closer or at a slightly different angle.

This is entertaining - at least to me! LOL

An extra bit which probably doesn't matter - both cameras can shoot in RAW - however one of them was set to JPG only that day.

Both SOOC images were brought into Lightroom for the quick, side by side comparison and rough color/exposure matching by eye and conversion/exporting.

Busy today, but should be ready for the big reveal by the end of today or tomorrow AM at the latest...

Cheers!

OK, this wasn't a real attention getter - but fun anyway...maybe next time a more scientific comparison would be more interesting to the forum - however - without further ado -

Tompower53 wins the dyslexic award!

It's exactly the opposite of what he guessed! LOL

1. R1 Shot in JPG (w/cir pol)
2. A700 w/ CZ 24-70 lens shot in RAW (w/UV0)

I'll sometimes toss the R1 in the bag on a shoot as it gives brilliant quality, plus look and style opportunities not easily achieved otherwise...

After not using it for a while I forget and wonder why I am still hanging on to it instead of selling and putting the money towards another lens. Then I remember - the lens on this camera is probably worth more than the camera itself! Pretty impressive I think...

Sorry no one won the A900 for guessing the correct answer. Better luck next time! :->

This really was a hoot. You got Jay saying the second one has more detail, eyefuse says the first has more detail, and Tom gets the right cameras but in the wrong order. At least to me, it just makes all the pixel peeping we do on these relatively small images on the internet, look kind of silly. All three of these guys are knowledgeable but were totally at odds. (notice I didn't even venture a guess) It's all so subjective. Maybe we should try not to get so wound up over these things. They're all good.

Just for fun!

Funny I like it. I knew you would be using the R1 for one of them but could not for the life of me figure out which image it was so I just guessed.

Perfect example of why the new Sony EVIL's might be a great lightweight alternative when we don't want to carry our big cameras around. They should have substantially better IQ than the R1 along with some other features like auto HDR. The new R1 !

I'd be happy if they'd just bring the R1 back with the same lens, but a more svelte body.

I think putting that lens on the R1 at the time was brilliant, but also probably made the camera "too expensive" compared to the coming wave of super-zooms - so it got lost in the shuffle between serious photographers and consumers. They can't have been making much profit on them either once the prices adjusted down. If that exact lens was available in A mount I probably would have bought it - though there is also something magical about the camera itself as well I think. Hassy-like waist level shooting etc.

I wonder if the APS-C CZ 16-80 is based on this lens??? I know the (5X) R1 is a 14-72 and 2.8-4.5, not f3.5-4.5, but its close. Both are 24-120mm equiv. I suppose they could be based on the same basic design. Just a thought.

...and of course I wish that Zeiss would issue a variant 24-120 for FF.

Processing matters, especially when you display small pictures like this.

The first shot has more info in the jeans, as the larger file size also implies, but that can be a focus thing too.. :)
