Stolen Photos

wouldn't want to play golf with this person man or woman. Wonder what she does for a living? Hope it's not a position that requires one to be trustworthy.

Just to set the record right...

That pic was someone else's from here...

Here was my attempt...

I wonder why this person was doing this? I wonder if he was trying to 'steal' photos, or if he was just saving photos he liked to a single location?

I wonder who this Jerry is? Guess who is the only person to write in his guest book?

Here is the original message...
http://www.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1007&message=1785799

I am just wondering if Jerry was trying to offend people, or if he was just saving some pics he liked to his gallery? If he wasn't meaning to offend people or so called 'pinch' their photos is that such a big offence? I don't think he said anywhere that they were his photos did he?

Just a different point of view.

Just had a look at his profile here, and Jerry is JerryO, who from my memory isn't such a bad guy.

See this recent post of his for instance...

Jim, Try this link to correct barrel distortion in PhotoShop...Jerry

http://www.dpreview.com/learn/Image_Techniques/Barrel_Distortion_Correction_01.htm
Good morning all!!! I actually got mine from someone on here! On
another post he happened to mention he had one he didn't need, not
actually trying to sell or anything, but if maybe interested he had
one. So I emailed him and voila! So if I'm thinking right isn't
this barrel distortion correctable in Photoshop? I'll have to find
out how to do that.
God Bless,
Jim

Hey,

I think I just made a big mistake. I replied to a message about Jarrell's 'hair', which must have been about a different person than the rest of this thread is refering to.

Sorry for any confusion, and appologies to JerryO for me thinking that you were all talking about him.

Yours sincerely,

He is the one who started the 5700 community....I am really disappointed in him.

I've had my own strange experience with Dennis. If you are waiting for him to appear and give an explanation....it will never happen. Dennis told me he was handicapped and confined to a wheelchair. (If that's even the truth!) This pbase incident is an example of just how badly he wants to "fit in". He has the most bizarre behavior and will never come forward to give an explanation. It's a very sad situation.

It's a very sad situation.
Strikes me as quite neurotic, with his implied ownership and display of pilfered photos. And to post them on a public site, like he was asking to get caught. Pathological, compulsive, low self-esteem comes to mind.

Wonder what alias he'll masquerade around with now? Such is the pitfalls of the internet.

Hi Michael,

Neat pic :) You just have to put Spoc ears on Jerrell! That pic is just begging for it ;)

Hi Carmen, I can't believe he would do something slimy
like this, In my conversations with him during the C-Zero
days I got the impression he was a decent sort..

and after realizing that they weren't taken by me, nor did I give
credit to the real photographers, they were imediately yanked from
my site this morning. btw, it was a gorgeous mushroom closeup, and
an all "chromed out" palm tree setting. Sorry guys! The last thing
I want to be accused of is a plagiarism! ;

I mean he keeps the same name in both places and even gives the link in his posts. Maybe the Nikon forum is his family, the only family he's got and it is comforting to him to display everyone's pictures in his website?
Hey guys - Have you noticed that people are taking your photos off
your PBase gallery and putting it in their own? Or even worse, off
your personal site?

Check out this gallery - http://www.pbase.com/picnet46368/root

Not only did this person take my butterfly photos, "he" also took
my entry from the 2nd Challenge (and renamed it). And I believe
this photo - http://www.pbase.com/image/4925620 was someone's from
here. Perhaps Sid's? I can't remember offhand and I'm too upset to
look around.

I thought PBase was to post your personal photos, not to go around
collecting other people's photos and posting them.

This could very well be the case. Did you see "One Hour Photo"? Very similar situation where a lonely man "adopts" a family as his own and displays their photos on his wall...actually they cover an entire wall in his apartment.

As most of you know, I have had to work with Dennis on the 5700 community..so this is what I feel. For one it has been obvious to me in our several conversations on the phone that he is very lonely. He is married, has a home. He has also been forced to retire early due to illness/disability. He is now required to be home permanently...so hence the new hobbie of taking other peoples pix. Now for the old timers; Don't you remember the pictures he posted with his 5700; they weren't that great?!..so his skills as a photographer need to be worked on. But I have a feeling due to his disability he may find it difficult. So lets just drop this attack and move on...as Cathy pointed out he most likely WILL NOT come here to offer an explanation..but I think I have shed some light on it for you.

I am sure he is sorry..but perhaps a little afraid and ashamed to come into this pit of fire.

We need to pray for him and wish him the best.

I too feel there is some type of explanation but even I wouldn't want to be here and get so beaten up. Why I actually can understand I'm not sure. Perhaps it's that he didn't put his name on the images, didn't say he took them and since he did have them on a public site...all signs of someone who wasn't secretly trying to steal the images and claim the fame.

Anyway, just my thoughts. An explanation would be nice, but even without it, we should try and be a bit more understanding. If they turn up on e-bay or have his name on them somewhere that's another story. As I said before, there's a lesson learned here. By more than just Dennis I'm sure.

Carmen,

While I agree with your sentiment, I just went back to the first messages, and I'd be willing to bet he never had a 5700. I didn't find any 5700 photos that he posted, at least not in this forum. He did post an 885 photo. His one message talked about having a 5000 too. Bought at Bway Photo... As his messages progressed, so did the cameras listed in his signature. But the 5000 was forgotten although he claimed he bought 10 each of some adapters for the 5000.

It is indeed sad when someone resorts to making up things just to "fit in". I wonder if he understands that he would have fit in even if he didn't have a camera, without having to lie...

I hope he finds a place where he will feel comfortable and fit in without having to exaggerate or borrow other people's works.
