For those that have the new mouse I'm curious how long your batteries are lasting?

When i was shopping for my computer the guy at the store told me I should get MONTHS out of my AA batteries. I have had my new computer for about 2 weeks. First pair is done....

Anyone else?

To be fair, I'm using the ones that came with the mouse...

I have had two since well before Xmas and they are going strong. One is used at work with my MBP alone. The other is on the desk at home with the MBP 'docked' to a 24" LED Display and with the older 3 battery style aluminium bluetooth keyboard.

Whats your setup? Have you updated all the firmware?

Hi Owen,

I've had my computer since the end of Dec. Original MM batteries still good. My computer is used heavily. I use a Wacom tablet for LR/PS which makes up 90% of computer time.

Still liking your machine? I am :)

I got my system in mid-December, and had to replace the mouse batteries at the end of February. Considering that I was on vacation for a while, this amounted to less than two months' use out of the supplied set of alkaline AA batteries.

I got 7 weeks on my first set that came with the mouse, and it looks like I'll get more on the current set (Duracell alkalines).

i've been replacing mine once a month with medium to heavy use since november. however, i use a bluetooth usb adapter plugged to the back of my apple cinema screen. as a result, it may not be sleeping as often as it should. i'm switching to rechargeables.

i got my wife one for her year old imac for xmas. battery life still shows 66% with medium useage.

Sounds like a good choice for NiMH rechargeable cells.

I got my 27" imac just after Xmas and i'm on my second set. They certainly don't last long, but i"m on it every day 3-4 hrs.

I'm on my second set of batteries since the beginning of december. The first set was what was provided by apple, they only lasted a month. The durcells I bought seem to be holding up better.

Seems like it would be a good opportunity to create a usb powered cradle where the mouse could charge. Good for the environment, etc...

I really do like the apple products. However, I am QUICKLY growing old of their sales reps not knowing their products.

1. Bought a new imac. Double, triple, quadruple checked compatibility with my epson 7600. Was told as fact that it would be no problem and that apple created new drivers that will work.

FALSE....

2. Magic Mouse. Asked about batter life. Guy at the apple store told me that ones on display had their original batteries, been going strong since the first came out.

BS, there is NO WAY that this could be true with the amount of use they get at the stores. No way on earth.

Small and large. If they don't know they should just say so.... The mouse is a small problem. The printer issues I had is a major problem.... And trust me. I took the email I had to the highest level possible with apple.

Same here - Duracell seems to last longer. I love the magic mouse but I'm afraid it doesn't really fit with the whole "green apple" thing - it's one of the few things that makes me feel a bit uncool about using my Mac - hope they come up with a recharger-mouse mat or so. I'd buy right on the spot.

I use rechargeable Sanyo eneloops in my Magic Mouse and wireless keyboard, and recharge them overnight about every three weeks. Got eight AA's, 4 AAA's and a charger from Costco for about $20.

You don't need to wait for Apple to do this.

2000 mAH NiMH batteries last about 2-3 weeks with heavy use. The batteries I use can be recharged from 500-1000 times before they need to be thrown in the recycle bin. The batteries came as a set of 4... 2 in the mouse, 2 charged and ready for use.

2 sets at 500 recharges each at 2 weeks per charge means worst case getting new batteries in 38 years. I can live with that. :D

Cold winter morning not long ago
When you got the Mac before it snowed
A new mouse came to you
Never seen teeth so blue
Jobs knew you could not throw it away
You wanted to see the touch surface and play
It seemed like it knew Macs
It was paired to one too, yeah
"Give me a pad", it squeaked, "and a 100-battery pile"
"You don't have to feed me yet
Factory batteries last for a little while
But try to understand
Try to understand
Try try try to understand
My magic is eating any battery at hand!"

I got my i7 iMac in early Dec, and I’m still using the original batteries. I use my iMac on the mostly weekends, for several hours at a time, so I’d say it’s a moderate level of use.

The Mighty Monitor widget shows the batteries still shows charge of 2/3 the last time I checked. When they finally do die, I’ll replace them with Sanyo Eneloops.
