Which IXUS to go with g11?

Hi, I'm looking for a pocketable point & shoot to go with my g11 just for quick shots with high image quality. I'm currently looking at the IXUS 130 but I haven't seen any images or reviews on it yet. Can anyone offer some suggestions? thanks :)

If not an S90,
The S90 and G11 are so close in terms of price and specifications that the S90 might be worth considering as a replacement of the G11 (if the latter's additional features are not essental), but as an accompaniment for quick shots something even more pocketable probably makes more sense.
then the SD1200 (which has an OVF).
Yes, the SD1200 (Ixus 95) might fit the bill. Same resolution as the G11, but a smaller sensor. If you can still find one, the SD770 (Ixus 85) has virtually the same specs, but a thinner, better-looking body and longer battery life. The SD940 (Ixus 120) might be interesting for its 28mm wide angle, but it's probably noisier and has no optical viewfinder.

Usually, people ask that kind of question trying to pick a companion for their SLR. But why would anybody want a P&S to go with a P&S???

I assume it's because the G11 is to big - it's bigger than "pocketable" size, it starts to become a little big and heavy even for a purse (depends greatly on the size of the purse, personal prefence, etc - note that I said "starts to").

Yeah, but the OP asked for "for quick shots with high image quality". How much closer could you get to the image quality of the G11 than an s90? ;-)

The really small cameras like the 780 do take a hit in image quality, though on the non-780 ones it's probably not huge as long as you're in good lighting.

I can only say that my personal preference is to carry my s90 with me most of the time. If I need anything smaller or more portable, I'll use my cell phone camera. Nowadays they aren't greatly different than the regular really small cameras that are available.

I'm not an expert on cell phone photography, but I have an Ixus 85 (SD770) and I doubt that any regular cell phone camera can even remotely compete with it regarding its image quality, zoom lens or flash, let alone its handling.

Well, here's someone else's pic from their Droid -

To be fair, I'm wandering completely off topic here. And the actual conclusion is that the regular camera is better, but it's like 10-25% better, not like 100% better.

And heck - I don't know what the OP's carrying situation is. The s90 fits in my pocket, but I'm a tall guy who wears baggy jeans. Tights jeans, or pockets full of stuff...maybe a smaller camera is totally necessary.

But I'm just saying...the sd1400 is $250. The s90 is $400. It's not an insignificant amount of money, but for an extra $150 you get an s90 with the same kind of image quality you get with the G11.

Of course, as I mentioned, perhaps the s90 really is to big to be convenient for the OP, in which case I'm totally off base, lol.

Its not an Ixus, but is similar. I use the small, robust, versatile Canon TX1.

I have to say that this doesn't convince me at all. The Nexus seems to have decent sharpness, but that's not so much of a challenge with a fixed focal length. Apart from that, its picture looks awful - flat and as if shot through a haze of blue smoke.

I disagree, and wonder how you arrived at these numbers. For certain situations like wide angle outdoor shots in good light the output may be not a world apart, but I still think that having a camera like the SD1200 with a real zoom lens, a real flash, twice the resolution, lots of advanced features and ergonomic controls is 100% better than having a cell phone which offers none of the above.

Of course, cell phone cameras are still very useful for having something like a camera with you when you don't have a camera with you, but that's it - at least for now.

I'm not saying the pocket camera doesn't have some advantages, I'm just saying that we're talking about a compromise anyways, the question is where the line is between convenience and portability. "twice the resolution" isn't accurate though - but that's a whole difference discussion.

Another vote for the S90...best full featured compact camera on the market in my opinion.

I've just read a very interesting review about the Ixus 210 I.S at Cameralasb.com. It gets 18 points from 20 in image quality and besides , the samples are in pair of this punctuation .

thanks everyone, the IXUS cameras sound perfect for me I'll see if I can still find an IXUS 85 and look into the review on the 210. The S90 sounds like a good option but as it's similar to the G11 I'll stick to the G11. I actually wanted something sleek and feminine out with the girlfriends that I can fit in my purse and not have to think just click. I'm a 5ft 2" chick so pocketable would mean tiny :) thanks for all the comments.
