Unfortunately, they don't sell the GH1 in the US with the Panasonic 14-45 lens, nor do they sell it body only. The 14-140 lens is too big, and I don't have a need for that much zoom.

Obviously, the other options is to get the G1 or the GF1... but the G1 is approaching DSLR size and the GF1 doesn't have a nicer EVF. Maybe, we'll see a body only of the GH1 soon... maybe not.

I want to buy a GH1 package... but... for half the price. ;)

LOL! Oh, come on! I'm not asking for something ridiculous. They already offer the combination of GH1 + 14-45 in Japan. They just have to make it available state-side. Booo!

Everyone is waiting for Pany to announce new cameras, probably another m4/3.

So you have a good chance to...no, not to buy GH1 with 14-45, but start to want something even less available :)

Hi,

pardon my ignorance, but is there a size difference with the GH1 and G1? I just traded my old and trusty Nikon D70 to the G1 (not received yet). I thought the two were about the same size? If you don't need video, why not just get the G1? I was looking at the GF1 first, but the EVF on the G1 did it for me. Can't afford the GH1 + have a video camera for the occasions I want to shoot video.

I think Panasonic is asking the ridiculous. Patience, my friend. :)

You're right. I mispoke. The G1 and GH1 are pretty much identical in size. I'm actually considering the G1 now. It would be nice to get the GH1's sensor, but the G1's pretty nicely priced right now.

Wonder how many people choose cameras from the other brands as Panasonic continues its "gotta-buy-a-lens-with-the-body" policy established with the now-gone L1 and L10. I would imagine the G1 is doing better numbers than the two DSLRs that preceded it but the fact that it sells for half their MSRPs has to be a major reason. It's as though history is repeating itself and the lesson still hasn't been learned. (Shaking my head)

I believe Panasonic offers their camera as body only in Japan. If this is indeed true, then it really means that Panasonic does not think the body-only market in the US is not big enough to justify creating another package. I wonder, too, if they are having problems with keeping up with demand, since their products like the LX3 and GF1 have had some availability problems.

The way I see it, Panasonic is letting their camera market grow, and expanding accordingly rather than trying to expanding to predicted demand. It's a safe move, but the consumers are the ones that lose.

The G2 announcement should be out in a week. The sensor could be a new model out of Pany's brand new sensor plant and the cam should have some video. But the lens will most likely not be the video oriented one from the GH1. Should be just what you and many more want.

The sensor in the GH1 is a 16:9 sensor, the G1 is a 4:3 sensor. If you do wide shooting, architecture, landscapes the GH1 would be an advantage. The sensor also is considered one of the best sensors in any digital camera.

Well, actually it isn't a 16:9 sensor. They have done what they did on the P&S cameras like the LX3 and others.

DxO is one that I read. There may be others. It just struck me that on a per pixel basis they were so surprised on its performance. They weren't looking at the processing engine, just the raw sensor performance if I recall. This was when it first came out, so others may have upped the game since.

Just went back and looked and I think what I read was someone's creative interpretation of DxO information. What DxO did say was that up to ISO 800 the GH1 outperformed the Canon 7D, and after ISO 800 they were about equal.

Of course there are cameras that outperform these by some margin. Mostly pro models and of course the medium format ones. In the consumer range though the majority of cameras

Most consumer models tested currently score in the mid 60s range on their scale. 5 points on the scale is equal to 1/3 of a stop.
