Stolen Photos

Take my kid to a football game and look what I missed out on!! I get home, crank up the web and see this! I'm not concerned as my stuff isn't good enough to steal yet, but I gotta agree with the consensus here. If no reason or excuse is forthcoming then we need to tar and feather this guy lol. A good old fashioned horsewhipping is in order I think.

Are you thinking that is Greg's picture? Funny thing
is his gallery is empty but that picture is a live picnet
link at PBase..

Very Odd !!

Sid
Just thought I'd check in before calling it a night and found this
odd situation. Does anyone have an idea of how many different
people's photos were posted on his site?

Frank, I remember how moved I was by that long exposure of the pool
too, -- strange feeling to think that he may not have been the
photographer.
Greg G. must have had a subconscious premonition about this
situation, I was just looking at a few of picnet's posts, and
noticed this comment from Greg in response to one picture that he
posted:
"............Excellent image and you know it!"
from the thread:
http://www.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1007&message=3373104
I sincerely hope (for him) that the pictures he posted directly to
this forum were his own (and if so, who knows what's going on).
Hope he comes on and explains. -- maybe he needed a portfolio to
impress a potential employer or something........
long day, mind hurts, need sleep...

Hi Sid,
No, Greg was just commenting on the picture in that thread.
That is strange, -- I didn't notice that it was linked from pbase just now.

There are (at least) a few others in looking at picnet's profile that are still there but not showing up in his regular gallery.

While his galleris are gone, the direct access to the image is
still there. It probably will be gone after PBase does some type of
maintenance.
  • Olga
Good point. So far every direct-linked photo I've tried in his profile is still available.
Ed.

Nicole contacted PBase, I believe, and I did as well, since at least one of the photos was mine (did you notice how MANY photos he had? And all those shots of the tulips that I recall seeing before from one of our friends from Holland...'ole pic gets around, doesn't he?).

I notcied, by the way, that the guy who owns PBase lives just a few miles from me, lol.

Tim:

Are you serious? I wish I could be as trusting as you, but I can
verify that for at least my own photograph, he cropped it so that
my name and copyright were removed. This was not an action of
"cleaning up" or removing artifacts. Please look at the new
gallery he's created that Hariette posted.

No, there is no excuse. Yes, he needs to come clean, but when you
catch someone with the smoking gun....
Look at the bright side, Frank. At least he had good taste. He
didn't steal any of mine. :-)

Kidding aside though, cutting out your copyright was a pretty dumb
and blatant move.

I also wonder if he removed all the images from that site, or if
the PBase administrator did it after receiving Nicole's email. Were
all the images on his site stolen from somewhere else? Why remove
them all, if they were not?

Wonder if the number (46368) following "picnet" is a ZIP code?

If so, it's Portage, Indiana (IN is part of profile). Portage is
a small town of about 36k individuals located in Porter
County in the greater Chicago area.

The Comfort Inn in Portage IND has the same zip code. This is their map location.

If anyone wants to light a fire under picnet, the nearest newspaper is at Gary. You might want to drop them a line. They might know picnet. Perhaps he has even tried to sell photos to the trade?

No wonder I always had reservations of posting the best at the largest. I always wondered if these challenges were just to provide a gallery of images for somebody else's use. eL
Just got off work and started reading this thread. I'm
aghast that Dennis would do something like this, all the
more reason to restrict your image size to 800x600 max
for web posting..

Shaking my head in disbelief !!!!

Should still inform the photo agencies. Could have been selling our (not my novice) pics. Personally, I am not particularly concerned about someone taking credit for my work (such as it is). But, I would be cheesed off if some scum profited from my sweat.

But, its up to Frank and the others.
