Although they support .avi type files, neither Adobe Premier nor Sonic Foundry Video Factory support the .avi files created by my S330.

Are plug-ins or other work-arounds available?

My copy of VirtualDub reads them fine - maybe you can convert them to another format with that?

Steve,

Although there were way too many choices in VirtualDlub, it worked the first time. It's difficult to tell with these tiny images if they were degraded by the process. The file size is much smaller now too.

Thanks for the great help.

I converted my AVIs to 200kbps DivX and they came down to about a third in size (550k or so). Stripping off the audio would save another 150k or so. Another great thing about VDub is that there is a ROTATE filter so my movies now all play the right way up.

I've not tried different bitrates but you could maybe up that a little to 250 - 300kbps and ensure you aren't losing too much. I'm yet to be too concerned with it :)

I checked out the DivX website but am unclear what I need to do to use DivX with VDub (sounds like I know what I'm talking about, huh???).

Yes, I too have some movies that need to be rotated.

I tried the "Levels" filter in VDub and it improved the quality quite a bit but I still have much to learn.

All you need to do is download and install the DivX codec. There should have been a link to it from their page somewhere. If you really want to cover all your bases, do a search for the Nimo codec pack and install that - it has a GREAT deal of codecs.

Once installed, you should be able to choose DivX5.0.1 (or something) as your chosen video compression method. You can then set the codec up for what you need. For small animations (file size
