Lexar Firewire Compactflash reader... problems with WinXP

Is anyone else having trouble with the Firewire reader? I am running Windows XP Pro, and my first gotcha was that Lexar has not gotten signoff from Microsoft for the driver for Windows XP. That is not great, but acceptable, as long as I can get it to work. Well.. it hangs explorer, and even hangs when I try to shut down. Lexar support is almost a joke.. they want to tell me I have a problem with my camera. Um.. it is removable media, I should be able to write/read form it with a reader even if there are no other devices involved.

Anyone else having problems with it?

Thanks,
Roger

Datafab makes a CF firewire reader that is sold by Lexar as well as ADS and perhaps some others. I have the ADS version, but I am not sure is the same model you have. The CF reader on the LEXAR site could be a twin for the ADS version I have.

I am also using WIN XP pro, but I did not have to load any drivers at all. I just plugged it in and it works like a charm. I have another external hard drive in a firewire case and it plugged in XP pro with nothing needed.

Perhaps the Lexar software is for other stuff and not really needed for the device to communicate over the firewwire connections. I checked around the LEXAR site and they do not even offer drivers for the firewire CF reader, unless you have a Mac.

Do you have the universal reader perhaps?

All I can add is it is working with Win98se. They say it works with Xp I bet it is a driver problem.

The tech support all but admitted it is a faulty reader. I am not going to waste any more time.. I am returning it. The green light never turns off/flashes, or anything.

Looks like I paid too much, so this will work out well. Anyone know where to find it online for a good price?

Thanks,
Roger

This is correct no extra drivers are offered..Using Win98se it just loaded from my Microsoft CAB files that were on my system.

Given it does not turn on the green lite I agree it must be a bad unit..Only other thing I thought was is you'r firewire card working right.
