Hello,
I am looking a good book (for beginners) about DSLR photography.

I've searched amazon and I found out lots of book. I want to star with a good book.
Thanks

Are these books for a special model of camera or they are about the concepts of DSLR photography?

As you said there are many. As digital photography became more popular the number of photography how to books exploded, some are general, some are particular to certain brands or models of cameras (some without saying so in their title), some are specific as to certain aspects of photography -lighting, composition, post processing, etc.

Because of the widely differing quality and availability of these books (some are released, available for a year, and never seen again), I recommend starting out at your public library. They will usually have many introductory books and a smaller number of specialized/advanced books. Check out a couple and once you start reading them you will probably have some more questions. Then check out more or buy some that address your needs. And ask questions on things you may not fully understand on this and other forums.

I have looked for books at the Library and found one book that I'm buying.

Tom Ang has an excellent web site and lists his books. I'm buying a book by Tom Ang, "Digital Photograph Masterclass". This book covers most of the basics and gives some great lessons to use. I highly recommend this book.

I was able to get this book from Barnes Noble as a new used book, shipped for $20.00.

There are many good books available and a trip to your local library is a good first step as well as visit the photography forums.

Keith,

If anyone STUDIES these forums, LEARNING how to take pictures will be LAST thing to learn about...;)

I 2nd the nomination on the Gary Friedman books... :)
In the meantime you can learn a lot about using cameras from studying these forums !

I found John Shaw's writing style very easy to read. His photo examples are nice and, explanation - easy.

His Nature Photography Field Guide is my favorite.

lookup on Amazon.

I came back to basics to make photos that will be interesting to check after many years.

Gray Friedman's books are good for beginners, and they put the info in the context of a specific camera. I would recommend his books.

If you want a good general book to introduce you to digital photography, I would recommend the Kodak Guide to Digital Photography by Rob Sheppard.

DSLR systems are capable of all kinds of photography an extreme wide range. As a result most attempts only cover some part of it or are pretty thin on real help as they try to cover all. Look for books in your particular photgraphic interests written by people who are interested in the same thing, but be careful as many books out are still really film photography, even ones with digital in the name are often just reworked film photography.

Suggestion: The Joy of Digital Photography by Jeff Wignall. The edition I own starts with a time line on camera technology etc. after the technical/gear chapters it covers the gamut of Taking Great Pictures; Design(artistic & elements of) Light (including star trails); People(portraits, sports & travel); Nature; image enhancement, improvisation and the Digital Darkroom. The text is well written and very readable without being patronizing.

Another suggestion: Bryan Peterson's books. He has a new edition out - Bryan Peterson's Understanding Photography Field Guide: How to Shoot Great Photographs with Any Camera . I enjoyed his books Understanding Exposure and Learning to See Creatively . I understand that the Photography Field Guide includes information from Understanding Exposure and other books he has written.

Tom Ang's books are good also, as well as the other titles mentioned by others in this thread. :)

I have the Kelby books and really enjoyed them. He covers a broad range of topics and it's mostly small explanations with examples of how it is done.

National Geographic has a number of guides. One is called "Photography Field Guide" and it covers different photography subjects such as metering, composition, depth of field, etc. These books are small so you can take them anywhere, but are chock-full of good info presented in a simple and straightforward way.

Tom Ang is another name that comes to mind.

I am a beginner and was given Tom Ang as a gift "Digital Photography an Introduction" . I only use this book and Mr Friedman's depending on camera.
I am still trying but things are looking up.

I post all my pictures, I think look decent and there is always a problem which I never saw myself when people CC so it does help to be on a forum. (A smaller community forum is a lot better ).
