The S2 manual doesn't exactly go into details on the differences between these two quality settings.

I did some testing between these two settings, and it was difficult (impossible?) to see the difference - except in file size, of course. This is only by checking on-screen images, not prints, but I zoomed in quite far on both images, tiled them side by side and there was a practically imperceptible hint of more jpeg compression artificats on the "Normal" image but you had to zoom in an extreme amount to notice.

I'm assuming it's simply a matter of the level of jpeg compression. Does anyone know any technical/detailed specs on the exact difference between these two settings?

Looking at the pictures in thumbs plus the "Normal" compression pictures have a jpeg compression of between 89 and 92 (on a scale of 0-100). Fine compression pictures always seem to be 98, again on a scale of 0-100.

I can't tell the difference, indeed most of the pictures I've done were at the normal setting.
