Challenge 3 - CHAT - Divergence

I have been thinking about that - whether people will vote for a really good photo but that has to have the divergence example explained. For example I went looking for a single red tulip in a bed of yellow ones on the weekend (or any other odd one out combo). It would be a not-so obivious example, but would people vote if it was a great shot? I didn't find one but have a couple more ideas that should do - one is obvious and one isn't. We'll see ;c)
Phil

It's not so much finding a picture of divergence; it's finding a
picture we all recognise as divergence and is also the obvious
theme in the picture. There are a lot of pictures of peoples
perspectives of divergence however, if we don’t recognise them as
divergence we won’t vote for them.

I'm not sure if this helps or hinders. Good luck.

After the contest, I'll share with you my experience with two of my ideas...I almost was arrested (ok, slight exageration, but I had some security folks ask me to leave) one time and had a friend's wife threaten to do things to various bodily parts that would not be approved for discussion here for another idea. lol

Frank
Still short on ideas for this one anybody? I've been having a great
time coming up with ideas - just have to spot one of them. I don't
mind sharing the thought process tho... Some of these words came
from posts here

Divergence - departing, deviant, scattering (as in light), odd one
out, split by another object...

What... nobody seen a rainbow this week? ;c)

Ahhh... the things we do to get a good shot...

I had a great idea early on, but it required me to risk my life somewhat...!(something to do with night, a freeway, and lots of fast cars! An idea for those who haven't thought of one yet...)

What an excellent example of divergence! I gotta say, some of the pics I see in this our third challenge appear, to my eye anyway, to be the opposite of divergence. Yet they're each and every one excellent photos. Great shot Blend!

you didn't miss it because dummy here forgot to post it. I only learned late yesterday how to copy the exif data, not in time for my picture, so heres a screen shot. I hope it's readable. :)

I don't see a date for your photo. Maybe I've missed it!

Thanks Jim,

The original photo I was going to enter was kind of lame (in terms of showing divergence), so I was lucky that I was in the right place at the right time to get this one!

It's going to be interesting once the Challenge 3 out-takes are listed, as all the alternate ideas that people had can be shown.

Dave:

Mine had to do with an airport...folks seem a wee bit touch these days about someone skulking around with a camera looking to take odd pictures ;). The other one, I REALLY want to do, but she freaked out when I told her it would be posted on the web...sigh. I somehow think it would not score very well if I had a black dot over her face ;).

That's funny I was thinking the same type of shot. Let

Just thought I'd mention that I was originally going to call the topic "divergence/convergence" but -- wouldn't you know -- of all things, I thought it would be more confusing!

To me anyway, it's just a matter of what one has in mind when they're shooting. For literal interpretations, the subject diverges from the camera, or "diverges towards the camera from a distant point", or diverges along some other axis..... (I know that at one point early on when I tried to describe it, I used "from the camera" in a description, but the final wording didn't include that :-) ).

Since many times we think a lot more about the subject than the camera, I think that divergence anywhere in the photograph (or, as in some entries, anything about the photograph!) should count. Just my opinion.

I sure am enjoying all the entries. There are some incredible ones, and it's interesting to see how different people see it different ways (including from subject outward or from back to front).

I noticed that Paul took some photos of his hand. I had the same idea, I filled up a 256mb card with shots of my hand (with fingers diverging outward), and I can definitely say that:

If I ever write that I know something "like the back of my hand" it's safe to interpret that as "I have no idea what I'm talking about".

Hi,

When I took the pictures of my hand instead of looking at diverging fingers like you I was focusing more on the lines on the palm of my hand. If you can get a good macro of that there's a whole load of divergence, convergence going on (at least on my hand - and they were clean !!).
However I didn't like the resulting photos - a bit flat, not enough colour...

Yeah, that pic is a winner--very nice!

Just out of curiousity, is it possible for something to show greater divergence than lines eminating from a single point outward such as in this picture?

Hi Michael,

THANKS! I'm glad you like it. I wasn't sure about it at first. I'd never done anything like it: only flowers up til now (LOL)!

Liesbeth
Hi Liesbeth,
Most impressive!!!

Who needs Photoshop when you can do that? :-)

Congratulations on coming up with such and original subject!

P.S. How do you expect me to win now?

I am stunned...wow....what a beautiful photograph..but you gave no
details? I can't wait to get home and see that on a "real"
monitor, lol, but I cannot identify what it is in the photograph.
Can you share the info,please?
