Hi All.

Forgive me if this was already asked...didn't see it but you never know.

Looking at ebay/bing auctions for the best camera deal and noticed that photovideo4less has one with an extended CPS 3-year warranty for about an extra $50 or so over their normal prices.

My question is is this worth it to a non-pro like me? I haven't owned a recent canon body since the D60 (ancient), and even it was second hand, so I'm not up to date. I was reading on the canon website about what the CPS is and from what it said, it is a membership program where you must own at least 2 20D class cameras or above, with 3 pro lenses. I don't fit either criteria.

Bottom line is I'm confused as to what I'd be getting if I bought this deal. And, if I could even use it if I don't qualify for the CPS program.

Here is the auction link:

Here is what canon says about CPS:

Any input would be appreciated.

Well my guess it is a grey market and the CPS warranty it includes is this one.

I went with Cameta for 1529 for a USA kit with lens removed.
Well, I'm pretty sure it's not grey market. They also do sell other 7Ds with just the US canon 1-year warranty. This one also comes with it. I believe there have also been several threads here talking this dealer being legit.

thx

you know you could be right. I thought I remembered seeing threads about this dealer but now I can't find them. Maybe I was thinking of someone else. Anyway... I was leaning towards cameta too before I saw this listing, and was just curious. I will probably do cameta unless anyone else has more info.

thx

Then why ask here?

Shoot lots of pictures, always fill the frame
Why wouldn't I? I wasn't asking if the regular warranty was legit. I'm confused about what the CPS thing might be and was hoping someone might have already been there before me (or even bought it from them), since I know plenty others have researched then bought their 7D off ebay too. :)

It's obvious from Canon's description of their CPS that it cannot be offered by a retailer. It's only extended to owners of two 20D's or better, and three "pro" lenses (which I assume means L lenses -- strange that Canon would use such an ambiguous term). A retailer has no idea what any customer owns, so how could he offer coverage in Canon's CPS?

Answer: He can't.

I didn't see where the seller named the 3-year warranty, but if it's called CPS, it's probably the CPS noted by rklockman.

It is imported version, at least the seller was honest when I asked him that.

If you go to their Ebay store they have new split kits. IE they open up a kit and sell the camera and lens seperatly. If you want the body only this is a good deal. $1529

Nope it's not just L lenses. The full list is detailed on the CPS page on Canon's website.

It includes the 10-22 and 17-55 for example.

Thanks all for setting me straight.

I made my purchase! :)

I found one last auction from Cameta for the low low price they were offering and went ahead and grabbed it, along with 8% bing cashback. Now I can't wait for it to get here!

FYI, I order my 7D from Cameta, the camera come exactly as describe, Can't be happier :) I also order the CF card reader but they ship the wrong card reader, when I call them they give me full refund and let me keep the all in one card reader that they already send. I would buy from them next time I order my camera.

The CPS (Consumer Priority Service) warranty program is purchased through a retailer for additional warranty coverage on a unit.Be careful when buying these because when you need repairs, you need to call them and go to an authorized repair center of their choosing (of which I've learned the hard way). Canon will not honor anything but their own warranty (which is 1 year)

Canon's CPS program on the other hand is for (Canon's Professional Service) which is entirely different. It is for pros with professional gear and need special advantages because they get all their income through photography.

It's entirely coincidental that both of these programs have the same name.

I hope this clarified things for you, good luck :)
