Trip to China

Bob,

Very nice photo essay. I've been to China twice (we adopted two girls there) but never had the chance to actually get out in the scenic countryside.

Like you I found the people to be very friendly.

Thanks for the great photos.

Thank you so much for your highly interesting photos from my native country and your great efforts in documenting your trip.

Some of the pictures are typical photos of well-known travel destinations by the western tourists, but some scenes are even new for me as a Chinese. You would have achieved even better results if you had a better camera (more powerful zoom) with you. I just noticed the blue of the sky in your photos often looked a bit fake.

Particularly interesting for me as a former seismologist (got my Ph.D. in theoretical geophysics with prof. G. Mueller in Uni. Frankfurt many years ago) are photos of your working scenes.

Regards,
Yang
Took 3800 pictures with my S200 in a little over three weeks in
July. Turned off the AiAF, turned on the vivid, worked real well.
It's a trooper just like my S100 was, which I showed no mercy. :)

Next stop Antarctica!

Thanks!

The people in the cities were pretty nice, probably because they knew I was a foreigner, but the country folks were something else.

No problem. It was a really interesting trip.

There were several times I wished I had my old Nikon stuff. I guess my days of 'big glass' will return when the D-SLR prices come down a bit more.
I just
noticed the blue of the sky in your photos often looked a bit fake.
The skys were actually mostly dark blue, I guess because of the elevation of the whole area being kind of high. I had to shoot a lot of pictures through the windshield of the truck we were in, and in trying to get the color of the dirt close to the right color the sky gets off a bit.

Wow, cool. You sould look at my other project pages. They are just up a level from the China trip. Some of them are more work and less play. :)

As you go west in China it seems to get more a little more wild like the western part of the U.S.

We had three projects in China this year. There may be more there next year.

Hi Bob,

I really enjoyed your site -- and was very impressed by the photographs. I haven't been to Qinghai Province, but I have spent a lot of time in China, and your photographs brought back a lot of very colourful memories.

p.s. interesting, too, that the new camera has a time travel feature, allowing you to transpose yourself to a balcony of the Beijing hotel in early June 1989, to get that shot of the young man and the tanks.......though it does look very like press shots from the time ;-)

I got S200 too but I jut shoot 12XX pics within 4 months.
I travel quite a lot and expect to visit China sometime.

No one was more surprised than I was to find out about that hidden Ultra Long Exposure feature. :)

I was going to try and find the exact spot where that student was standing when that picture was taken, but I forgot to take a copy of that picture that shows more of the surroundings! Stupid stupid stupid.

Bob

I didn't get any pictures of the small cows that I mentioned in the web pages, but I did get some pictures of some cow-like animals. I think the first two are of Tibetian yaks. The third picture is of a carabao (pronounced care-ah-bow -- like "take a bow for the audience") from the Philippines. I think they are a form of water buffalo.

Bob
Nice pictures you took!!
Do you made some photo's of cows (the animals). I'm starting a
database of pictures of cows all over the world.
