K20d: Do I miss something with fixed white balance?

On my job I take a lot of photographs of people with different skin tones and clothes at different focal lenghts with a 28-70 zoom (Its a good opportunity to practise my portraiture skills by the way). Light Conditions are under control and I use a Metz 48 bounced over my left shoulder. All is fine so far.

Because the auto white balance gives me different colours with almost every shot I fixed the white balance at 5500 K. After import to lightroom I get value from 5150 to 5500 K.

Do I miss something or is it not possible to fix the colour temperature?

Thanks for efforts in advance.

Hi bview,
what is your setting on Custom Setting #11.WB when using flash ?

if it's already on setting #2. Unchanged and you still have variable WB, then you might have a faulty camera. But if it's on setting #1 or 3, the camera will decide the WB value.
I don't have my K20D with me right now but that's what I remember.
Hope this helps.

Take a look at Custom Setting #12 as well. #2 - Fixed, will keep from adjusting the WB setting.

Thank you

Hi Herman,

after changing setting #11 to #2 Lightroom shows 5450 K constantly (not 5500 K). I can live with that.

Thank you for your quick help

Hi Russel,

you prevented me from having another problem before it occured. I think this setting will be relevant when I want a fixed wb without using flash - and I know someday I will want it ;-)

Thank you too for your help
bview :-)

Ah.

Never really looked at this setting. Thanks for mentioning this. Going to get it to fixed.
Any idea what use it might be to have #12 set to 1.Auto Adjustment?

I too noticed that even though I set WB on the camera while I am Lightroom I spend too much time adjusting the WB for my photos.

Regards
Christopher
