Moving along from all the gear-related posts and comments about the forum itself, here are a few recent GRD III snaps. These were processed with Lightroom 3 Beta.

The detail in this one is great. I had to underexpose it a fair bit, but it came out very well. See the original size image.

And another from the State Library in Melbourne. The original version has heaps of close-up detail, which I love.

The first picture is very good, I like the colors in that one and the scale. Where and what is this?
It's known as the Coops Shot Tower, an old brick structure that was used to make lead shot decades ago. Molten metal would be dripped from the top of the tower, to land in a big tub of water to form shot. As a heritage-listed building in the middle of the Melbourne CBD, it couldn't be pulled down, so they built a shopping mall right around it, and put a massive glass and steel cone over the top of it.

This photo (taken with a Canon, sorry!) gives you a bit more of an idea of how the shopping mall encloses the Shot Tower.

mark, wow - great pics! im wondering, was the fireworks pic handheld? and, for the concert pic, any idea how far you were from the singer?

just curious, thanks! :)

really creative and nicely composed. Good exposure .... what else can be done so well? Should have followed your advice more completely and added GRD III instead of GX200. OTH, Prog's Washington DC pics last night were darn good as well.

Thanks for these ! Ricoh's current line-up is impressive and more to come ....

Thanks for the kind words. The fireworks shot was on a small light-weight tripod. I was going to take my Canon SLR but in the end I couldn't be bothered carrying the heavy Manfrotto tripod. The GRD was actually perfect, and 28mm was exactly what was required for the shots.

The concert shot was from about 2 or 3 metres, in the front row. It was one of those "glad I had a camera with me" moments, and I was really impressed with how the GRD handled the mixed lighting. The shot I posted was ISO 800.

I second that.

Thanks to Archiver and Mark for sharing some delightful shots.
Great shots indeed. I just went to Google Images and searched for some other photos of Coops Shot Tower, and I like the one above by Archiver the most. Maybe it has something to do with me being a night person? ;-)

Mark's shots are also very nice. The timing and composition in the first are excellent, and I love the lighting of the second (and I'm also amazed by the GRD3 quality at ISO800, it seems on par with my DSLR).

These are really cool! If people don't stop posting these great low-light GRD3 shots I think I'm going to end up $650 poorer pretty fast...

Thanks for the info, this is great. Will have to plan a visit there if I get to Melbourne.

Particularly the second photo, with skylight and the lamps, shows the capabilities of this little camera. That's one tough metering situation. On the other hand the third image shows blown highlights at windows. But that could have been intentional, and you may argue that it adds something to the picture. Very high quality overall for small sensor. And the colors are very pleasant. Also thank you for posting full size, so whoever wishes may pixel peep. (not a good way to judge the GRD3 but good to show what to look for in the files)
Thanks for sharing.
