The Imaging Resources 1DMkIV test shots are up

At 6400 the Canon is already clearly a loser. Above that you are producing cell phone quality image from $5k camera and L glass. Really, why bother? Your model / athlete dressed in red will look pretty much look like a fuzzball (even in well-balanced studio lighting).

And all those stark IQ difference are based on 1/2 stop more exposure advantage given to the Canon across all shots. Can you imagine what 1D iV will look like if they were shot at same shutter speed/aperture? Good luck cheating exposure in a poorly lit stadium.

Good thing is this should settle it. No more home-cooked comparisons needed for the sole purpose of justifying one's money spent. Enjoy whatever you can afford, that's the key to happiness. :)

The 102400 shot is a pathetic joke. Why did Canon even bother?

This is what I was able to do with noise reduction and a little sharpening and finessing with the ISO 25600 sample from IR's RAW file. Being a wedding photographer, this is what I would do to any image taken at this ISO, and to me this is more than usable as this is a 100 percent crop on a 68"x45" print.

And just for fun, this is the best I could do with the ISO 102,400 shot. I don't think unless under emergency situations this would be useful in my line of work. Perhaps as a really artsy fartsy kind of shot.

One more to show where I would normally be shooting at during a wedding, from one end to the other when it comes to high ISO. Again, very usable to me.

.
nice impressionist painting ?... Manet or Monet ??

Canon Photography Inc. => Canon Impressionism Inc !! lol :)

Yeah, you nailed it with that last sentence. This "give one camera advantage with more exposure" nonsense doesnt really work in real life..
