This is just wrong. My 50-135mm has has this thing since the first day were it focuses very slowly when i first turn the camera on, but then it works quite well.

I guess it will eventually die.

Sigh.

Send Pentax to your website (fotofashion) and explain you have been approached by Canon and Nikon who are each negotiating with you to sign an exclusive sponsorship deal.

Then explain that you really like Pentax and would really like to keep using their products... if only they could suggest a solution to your problem. ;)
for almost a year ago I had my DA*50-135 fixed.. sdm failure.. and now.. it is getting stuck again.. And the DA*16-50 is stil to soft @ the corners (replaced twice). And my nice warrenty has ran out :S

If all else fails... just get a bigger lens!

Please contact Pentax and demand they take care of your issues -- warranty or not. Manufacturers have a responsibility to provide extended repair on products that may have design defects. Your history with your lenses puts you in a great position to insist that Pentax provide care for your SDM lenses.

If you think you are getting less than fair service from a company -- any company -- then you must speak up. Be polite but firm and insist on repairs. Let us know what happens.

Ask Pentax europe in Germany

They should do something ;)
Even though the Pentax global site say Pentax Germany is the European HQ, Pentax Europe are now in France - http://www.pentax.fr/fr/photo_nous_contacter.php

Pentax Scandinavia has been closed but their distribution is now handled by local distributors in Sweden & Norway, their website is still active and up to date. Here are the local distributors - http://www.pentax.se/dcms_index.php?id=27&lang=se

Did you buy through a local dealer? Sometimes returning the item through them is the best course of action, it certainly is the best way here in the UK.

As Joe Barnhart says, don't put up with sub standard products or services, put it all in writing so you have traceability, be polite, but firm. It's your responsibility to yourself! ;)

I'll try them also.. but I doubt they will give any extended warrenty.. The lenses was bought from BH. can't belive having both of them failing.. for work I can just use the mk2, but I'm traveling to the phillipines in 2,5 weeks. And going to do a shoot there..

Let us know how this goes. SDM issues affect everyone, you're helping us out by demanding some fix to this problem.

"Move along folks. Nothing to see here. There is no problem with SDM. Move along now..."

Sorry devisor, but welcome to the club.

Those lens probably are about to melt on most of those super hot portraits. Just ask the others if their isn't hanging out after viewing them. Maybe no conciliation for the lens wearing out. Hope a solution is in the making.

Yes I have talked to fovi.. about 2000nok for each lens.. atleast 1 - 2 weeks repair :S.
That's a lot to pay! :O

You could e-mail Pramath at Asahi Photo for an estimate. He quoted me around £65 to replace an SDM motor. Even with the insured postage costs it is less than the prices you've been quoted.

They are Pentax trained. He repaired a FA35 I sent to Denmark that arrived there broken, the costs were very reasonable and the repair was quick and perfect.
