Largest size of CF card for G2?

A quick question -- in their MemoryFinder section, Amazon lists the Canon G2 as being able to take only up to 256MB compact flash cards. I'm interested in the 512KB Viking card that's for sale for $199 with a $50 rebate, but obviously don't want to buy something that won't work in my G2! Has anyone had any experience with the Viking 512MB compact flash card in a G2?

Also, I've had problems with a Lexar 256MB compact flash card -- it wouldn't work in a USB card reader (although I could transfer images using Canon's software). Do only USB enabled CF cards work in compact flash readers?

Thanks!

I currently have a Viking 512MB card on order from Amazon for use with my G2 and Pro 90 cameras. I can say that I currently have 1-Viking 256 MB card and 1-256MB Lexar card and have never had problems with either one in the cameras or in my USB Sandisk card reader. Some Lexar cards come with a Jumpshot card reader. I have never used the Jumpshot reader, but I believe that those readers will only work with USB enabled cards.

I hope this helps.

There is no limit as to how big CF-cards the G2 will accept. I've previously used a 340Mb Microdrive, and also tried a 1Gb Microdrive. Today I use 256 and 512 Mb Ridata CF-cards. No problem. Go ahead and order your 512Mb Viking card!!!

I've used a Transcend 512Mb card in my Pro 90 with no trouble, along with Viking and Kingston 256Mb cards. I'm pretty sure the Viking 512Mb card will work fine in a G2 as well unless there is something peculiar about the card itself.

The size is limited to the 16 Bit size of the CF interface. I don’t remember the block size of the CF interface, but at 64K Blocks. Even if the block size the small 128 Byte size, we are talking 8-GB. More likely the block size is 256 or 512. Anyone out there remember?

Of course, nothing is without limits (well maybe outer space is). I think the biggest single CF-memory card one can buy these days is a 1Gb card (or the 1Gb Microdrive). So when I wrote no limit, I meant that any size available - can also be used with the G2. There are no limits specific to the G2.

Thanks, all, for the info! I've ordered the 512MB card from Viking!

I ordered the Viking 512MB card from Amazon two weeks ago and it arrived in three days! It works fine with my G2 and using L and Super Fine compression, you get 247 images.
You've made a good decision. Be sure to send in your rebate form!

I read somewhere that the Viking at Amazon.com had both a $50 and a $10 rebate--net $140 cost. Does anyone know how to take advantage of both rebates? Is this Amazon.com Viking deal currently the best buy on a 512 MB CF Card, or is there something faster at the same price? Or do these rebates mean that something is available at a much higher speed and is a superior product? In other words, why is Viking providing this rebate at this time? I want to buy a 512 MB CF Card and want to know where to buy it.

There were double rebates through Amazon on Photoshop Elements 2.0. Adobe wanted the original UPC code from the box and Amazon wanted a copy, so no problem sending in both rebates. (However I haven't received either one yet.)

In the case of LCD monitors the manufacturers reduced or eliminated rebates when demand went up, but CF cards are enough of a commodity that a rebate probably means the price is coming down.
