Hello m43 users.

I have one Panasonic LC1 with lenses Leica 28-100, zuiko 35 and zuiko 25 mm.

I would like to buy a m43 machine: GF1 or EP2, with panasonic 20 and 45 200 mm.

Today is winning the EP2, but I'm afraid with potential compatibility problems between panasonic lenses and the machine (future firmware updates, etc). Can you help me decide ...

Thanks.

Miquel.

If I understand you correctly, you have an L1 with the Vario-Elmarit-D 14-50/2.8-3.5, the Olympus ZD 25/2.8 and 35/3.5 Macro.

You are interested to buy either a GF1 or EP2, and you'll buy the Lumix 20/1.7 and Lumix 45-200 for it.

The question is "what is the compatibility?"

With either the Panasonic DMW-MA1 or Olympus MMF-1 mount converter, all three of your SLR lenses are completely usable on either the E-P2 or GF1. The difference in use between them is that the GF1 will only support auto-focus with the ZD 25/2.8, the other two will be manual focus only, where the E-P2 will support auto-focus with all three of them.

No Micro-FourThirds lenses can be used on the L1 body or any other FourThirds SLR body.

Also, Olympus and Panasonic have a cross-manufacturer firmware upgrade program so you can update Panasonic lenses fitted to Olympus bodies and Olympus lenses fitted to Panasonic bodies.

If AF operation is important to you, the E-P2 is the better pick if you want to use all your lenses on the Micro-FourThirds body. Lenses not optimized for CDAF operation (the 35 Macro and 14-50) might not focus very quickly, but they'll work fine.
