DPI for Fine Art Prints

Well the adhesive used in a plexi mount will not work (as good) if luster paper is used. It has to do with the texure of the paper. Luster is my favorite paper but the glossy has a much smoother surface.

If I might add this mount to plexi would be a face mount. If done right looks very nice. This type of mount does not need a frame, it looks like it floats on the wall.

I see. But there are work arounds for texture-backed papers.

I was just curious why you stated so emphatically that this was necessary.

Good for short term presentation perhaps but hardly archival let alone protective enough to prohibit dings, scratches and other accidental damage.

A photo face mounted to plexi would not be exposed to be scratched or dinged. No it is not archival, but would work for a poster size image for an exhibit.

You could offer to mount any sales you make, the way the customer wants or just sell the print alone.

Sorry, either I misunderstood you or we crossed messages online. The Rollataq system mentioned below is not for face mounting.

whatever dpi you use will decide your print size ( if you don't resample ) because the file will have only so much resolution coming out of the camera. If you want to increase print size and maintain dpi then I highly recommend resizing using Genuine Fractals over bicubric in PS.>
However you resize, the resolution stays the same. What you have at capture is all you will ever have no matter which software is used.

I think if the intention is to print big, either stitch or shoot MFDB or large format film.
Yes I know GF can fill in a few holes but not with any added detail.

I still vividly remember the days when 3mpx was being called the equal of MF film and GF was the silver bullet to wall sized fine art. I still think film beats digi for colour depth and richness in any format IMHO.

Cheers,

Kevin.

Trust me, it works. Its just a bit expensive to get into if you mount prints larger than 20" to 36" wide; you have to buy their laminator. I'd only recommend this system for someone who prints and mounts a lot of LF work annually.

The hand applicator is relatively cheap and works quite well for small prints. You just need to be mindful of the overlap in applying bands of adhesive.
