Tamron 60mm macro

No, it's f2.

I'd like to know if and when a Pentax version is due, too.

Pentax version is still in work, because of the Pentax only f 0,75 spec....:)

I hope they release it in Pentax mount, but may I ask you why you are interested in this lens?

If it the macro ability, then there is the Pentax/Sigma 50/2.8, sigma 70/2.8. If it the spped then we have 50/1.4, 55/1.4, 77/1.8.

Do you think there is use for both macro and f2 (such narrow dof ?), or is it the price.

I am not questioning your decision at all, but rather curious to learn why? Just a year ago, I posted a thread asking what is the use of a 135mm lens in APS-C, and now my F135 is my third favorite lens, only behind my two FA limteds. Also, a few months ago, I thought I will never get the 24/2 as I didn't find a use for it, now it is my favorite walk-around lens. So, It is a genuine query to understnad better......

Thanks!

I can only speak for myself, but I like it because it serves a few roles in one lens. First it does 1:1 macro. Secondly at 60mm F2 it's a nice portrait lens. Third with F2.0 prolly at least equally sharp to a 50mm F1.4 lens it's a nice fast lens if you don't have too much light. So it's attraction is not F2.0 for macro use for me, but the fact you have several types of lenses in one; macro, portrait and low light.

PS. I already mailed them for a Pentax version. :)

In case of the 17-50 Tamron we had to wait for more than one more year to get it. Some Tamron lenses are never released in K-mount.

Basically, I'm curious about whether the 60mm length might make a slightly better set-up for me than the Sigma 70mm. The speed is irrelevant, really, since it will be used tripod mounted, indoors, usually with studio flash.

The narrow DOF is something that might be fun to play with, but at the moment isn't anything I really need.

I don't know what the price might be. In fact, I don't know what the price of Sigma's 70mm is at the moment.

I contacted Tamron via email. They say they have no plans of releasing a Pentax version of this lens. I too was hoping to see this come in a Pentax mount.

Cheers,
Tim

My understanding is that this lens has a much longer working distance at 1:1 than other 50, 70, and even most 100-105mm macro lenses. I have the wonderful Sigma 70mm f2.8 EX-DG, but you must nearly touch the front element to small subjects at 1:1 magnification. It is also a sizeable and weighty (full-frame) device.

I would think the 60mm focal length and f2.0 capability, along with little in the way of size and weight would make the Tamron a lot more versatile than other macro lenses that afford the shooter equivalent working distance at 1:1.

do you need auto focus charlie

if not there's always the Voitlander 58 it's not a 1:1 but I use it for a lot of my flower work and it does lovely portraits.

and yeah i wish tamron was bringing the 60 out too.
At my age, Rohan, autofocus is not exactly imperative, but it sure is a major help.

I've got a couple older lenses that might do, including a Soligor 35-70mm, that is manual focus, though it's closest focus ratio is 1:2.7.

I haven't really tried it yet, as I just got the seller to help me figure out how to attach the blinking thing--it had a guard on the mount that was a touch too large to properly fit the Pentax. Two tiny, tiny screws and that was gone, it focuses great, or seems to, and I'll check it out as soon as I can. It's a solid feeling smooth operating lens, and many years ago, I had great results (IMO) from Soligor lenses.

For 1:1, how close do you have to work with the Tamron 90? Anyone?

Also, unlike most other macro lenses, tamron 60mm has an internal focusing system (i.e no change to overall length of the lens due to focusing).

The testing I've seen (on the Canon platform) indicates a 1:1 working distance of 99-110mm for the Tamron 90 macro. For comparison, here are the figures I've dug up (from various sources and tested on various platforms) for some alternatives:

Pentax 50mm - 47mm
70mm Sigma - 65mm (put the hood on and it's about zero)
FA100 - 100mm
Sigma 105 - 122mm
DFA100 - 130mm

In this context the claimed 100mm working distance of the Tamron 60mm looks enticing, along with its wide maximium aperture and compact dimensions.
