Hi.

Can anyone share how the handling of the (80-200G) is on the A900 body w/o the extra add on v.grip?

I have this lens and want to buy the a900 w/o grip. It seems the grip makes the a900 too big and awkard?

Thanks for your help-
Ken

Due to the weight of the lens, if anything, you would support the lens with your left hand and that would carry the weight.

So it would be similar to the 7d w/ the lens on w/o grip?
Thought the a900 body is bigger.

7D and A900 are very similar. I've got both and you handle them the same way. Not only that but, using 80-200g on camera and not holding the lens would put a lot of strain on the lens mount, which isn't good for so many reasons (including vibrations, tracking, etc)

Thanks All, I appreciate the feedback. Does anyone here "NOT LIKE" the A900 Grip?

I currently have the 80-200 and am looking at the A900/850 (or maybe wait till the A950). I'd be interested in seeing some samples as to how this combo works together. Thanks in advance.

I will mark this thread and if nobody replies by this coming w/e I will post some shots with A900 and Minolta 80-200/2.8 G for you (Sorry, rather busy at work). To sum up – this combo is working awesome and while I loved 80-200 G on A700 / A100, Minolta 7D, with A900 it got to the next level in my book! Blazingly fast, accurate and with amazing bokeh!

While i like the grip of 7D and A900 better than most cameras, i still have a problem where my finger nails rub into the plastic on the opposite side. But i do have quite long fingers...

Thanks, I look forward to seeing them. You don't by chance have the Minolta 28-70 f2.8g as well. That's another of my other lenses i'd like to see on the A900.

thanks again,
Darrell

I don't use my 80-200 very often, but when I do it never fails to impress. When I traveled to India and Greece I took it over my 70-400g because of size and I am more of a wide angle photographer. I find the tripod collar a little distracting when hand holding, but try to use a tripod when possible.

i know much of the credit for the quality of a photo resides with the photographer but it seems it must be more than a coincidence that shots taken with the A900 and quality glass always seem to impress. Yours are clearly no exception. thanks again,

Darrell

Don't have the 80-200G but have the 70-200G and now the 70-400G and w/o the grip it feels a little nose heavy IMHO. And there maybe that much difference in the 70-200G that this is meaningless in your case. Only trying to be helpful...

BTW Just got the 70-400G and I can't tell the difference between the 70-200G and the 70-400G in weight. There both heavy on the A900 but they are very steady. Just as an added note.

I too was skeptical of the grip, though it was with my A700. Once getting it though, it has never left the camera, even though I rarely use it "vertical"; the improved handling all around made it worth it.

As such, within 2 weeks of getting my A900, i made sure to buy the VG; again, it has never come off.

I know some call me weird, but i love the added size and weight. It makes handling the camera so much easier, especially with larger lenses. The added battery capacity is really nice too..
