I had a great time last sunday (Jan 10 2010) watching eagles at Le Claire, IA. Temperature was around -10 degree F with wind chill. So it was not fun standing outside for 3-4 hours. But it was fun watching the mightly eagles fishing.

I had great success with action shots this time. My 500mm AF-S I lens was cleaned and 'adjusted' by Nikon recently. I'm not sure if that has something to do with it. Most of the sequence shots were in focus. In these pictures last 6 are conitnuous shots. All of them were in focus.

I use AF-On button for focusing. ISO Auto turned on all the time with aperture priority mode. Minimum shutter speed was set to 1/1250 and aperture was f/7.1 Max ISO was 800. I was keep shooting without worrying about settings. I got very few out of focus shots out of around 500+ pictures..

All taken with D300 and AF-S 500mm f/4 lens (No TC)

All comments welcome..

Rest of the shots are part of one sequence

Congratulations, an awesome set of pictures. No 2 is my favourite, it just shouts out how natural flight is for a Bird.

Brilliant framing although the cropping on a couple of the shots could be a bit better, minor nit picking when considering the impact that these photos create.

Keep up the good work

WOW!!!! Excellent!!

Have Fun!

I love that shot too. In fact the it's the same eagle and fish as the first one.

Few shots were too close to crop any better. Thanks for your comment

I could take pictures that good if I just had that lens.

Actually, I probably couldn't.

Those are really good.

P.S. I've had amnesia for as long as I can remember.

All I can say is WOW! Despite man's best effort to replicate flight - you have captured nature's best. Nothing compare's to the raw and seemingly effortless power exhibited by a bird of prey in action. My hat's off to you. Simply awesome!

Absolutely stunning. Mere words can not adequately express the impressiveness of these shots...

A great series of one of my favourite birds, stunning captures, well done.

These are tremendous shots, congratulations. By the way, it appears from photo number 5, you might have a dust spot at the top left corner...... :))))
