Are there any K20d owners that upgraded to the K7 regret doing it? I was wondering about joining the club.

Thank You

No, I felt that with the K10d to K20d though. It didn't help that the seller didn't disclose a bunch of focus issues, etc with the K20d they sold though. Once I got that ironed out, it was a great camera. I really, really like the K-7. The only reason I haven't bought a K-x yet is I like the handling on the K-7 too much, and will just wait until they update its sensor before getting anything else.

I updated to the K-7 and I am happy! Looking back is bad for the psyche in any relationship! ;-) This is the camera I always wanted and a little bit of shadow noise is not going to bother me as it seems to bother those who pixel-peep and poke holes in the air as they wisely proclaim this/these Achilles Heel(s) of the K-7! Similarly with the autofocus!

Some people will never be happy with what they have...always something is wrong and da#n Pentax for not getting it right, AGAIN! Buyer's remorse is a curse! I understand the desire for perfection but as the old Chinese proverb states, "Slowly, slowly catches the monkey!" :-) LOL! Buy one and enjoy! I caught my monkey, maybe not the perfect one, but close!! The perfect one will always elude us!

Happy New Year to all
Leo

Great way of putting it, Leo. One can never be happy, if always yearning for the next best thing and in electronics (PCs, TVs, ...) they keep getting better and cheaper, with improvements coming faster and faster. Having played most of these toys for 30+ years, I have learnt to deal with the Itch. If you are a perfectionist, just try to get the most perfect shot from what you have. The biggest limitation is often the operator. LOL. Get the best gear that you can, but until you are able and ready to buy again, use what you have and be happy. Compare your pictures to those using the same equipment.

I bought the K-7 in an emergency, because I had to send my K-20 in for service on the eve of a South America trip. Hated it at first and couldn't wait to get my K20 back.

But I couldn't bear to part with it now. For my kind of shooting it is just ideal.

Couldn't bear to part with my K20d either, but that's another story.

Anything specific make you feel that way? I kind of go through the same thing when I buy something expensive, especially if it's not a huge upgrade, but usually after I get more familiar with the new one, I enjoy it more.

...you're not married ;) .. I know a number of mates (of both genders) who
have had similar feelings :o with some justified and some not :D

And, FWIW, I have yet to have any customers who have upgraded come
back with any regrets :) Maybe it has something to do with the weather ... I've
heard that too much sunshine is not good for folks ...maybe it's time to leave
sunny Florida, grab a brolly and head to the Seattle area ;)

Cheers and it only hurts whilst you're still paying it off :D

It's amazing what one can do when one doesn't know what one is doing :)

I'm married... To my best friend Linda. But I have a little extra money and bought a few lenses resently. Sigma 100-300 f4,,and the (Sigma 10-20, Vivitar 120-600 last week) also a $500 worth of Tripod and Ball a couple of months ago. So I'm all ready for the music.

I go to Blues Festivals and they don't allow movie camera's in anymore so I thought the K-7 would come in handy.

I bought a K-7 and kept my K20 (the first time I haven't shifted the older model on). In terms of IQ there is no noticable difference, but that isn't why I changed. Indeed, the similarity makes PP very simple - once on the computer I treat the images the same from both bodies.

It took a little while to get used to the ergonomic differences - perhaps the first 500 clicks - but now I hugely prefer K-7. In fact, the K20 now feels decidely clunky. For a one-body outing it's always K-7; K20 only goes out now if I want to swap quickly between two FOVs without needing to change lenses.

Let's be clear, though: K-7 isn't perfect, as no camera is. However, for me it's the nearest-yet approach to perfection. No doubt you've scoured the forums looking at pros and cons: the ones I remember as causing concern are:
  • Loss of bracket button. The direct access to shutter modes in general is much quicker; I bracket moderately often but find the overall saving in time is worth the slight loss when bracketting.
  • Congestion of buttons, especially LV. True, but for me worth it for the reduction in size of the body.
  • SD card cover. Tricky to start with but it gets freer with use and easier with practice.
  • Fixed rear LCD. Even if, like me, you never shoot video the LV screen is superb for focusing (see comparison with K20 below - both at 8X although K-7 goes to 10X) and there are occasions - low-level macro, for example - when an articulating screen would help. But on balance I prefer not to have the extra bulk by my face when using the optical VF.
