Anyone had a look at their gallery via slideshow since the last upgrade to the site? They are using 'scale images' which tries to blow up an image to fill the users screen automatically, - ruining the image in the process.

What were they thinking??? It can be changed back to the old style slide show (which worked fine), via 'customize visitor view' > slideshow> Page options> uncheck 'scale images'.

It didn't do that to me? My images were fine after I tried it...

BTW - Have you tried letting them know instead of whining about it here?

Neil, your slide show has been upscaled and they look very poor compared to the pics in your gallery viewed correctly. I am viewing on a 24" 1920 x 1200 screen.

I posted here because no one has been warned about potential problems with upscaling. Photographers put so much work into their galleries to get them looking good at a specific size and not subject to some random upscaling algorithm

I have the same screen size/resolution, a Samsung 245T to be exact. I have been playing with the new features (including the slide show home page) and am NOT having this same problem...

Great, I am a photographer and understand what you are saying but that still doesn't solve your problem. Contact Zenfolio with your problem so they can correct it for you (and possibly others). I am not having the same problem you are so maybe, just maybe, it's just you? That's all, simple.

Hi Kevin,

I see that you're a zenfolio user too. I will look at what you're talking about when I had time.

It's always a pleasure to have a look at your Paddock.

It's been a long time that I have been on the forum, I was looking around to see if there is any improvement in the bridge zone since the FZ30/FZ50. I still with my old FZ50.

Knowing that you know the FZ30, work with the s100fs and s200EXR.

I imagine that if you changed, it's because you saw improvement in some departement.

Can you tell me about your experience. My concern is really about IQ and I have to admit that I really don't know the Fuji camera.

Thanks

I was just looking at some of your galleries such as this one:

http://maxhr.zenfolio.com/p832394697/h2addb6d#h2addb6d

Do you think that maybe the uploaded resolution of the images at 836x531 that you have used in a lot of the images has created this problem you are referring to? That's why you had to "uncheck 'scale images'. It can only upscale your images so far before there is any image degradation ya know...

Mejnor, the IQ is better but most people these days buy a DSLR instead of a superzoom because the price of DSLR has dropped a lot, - oly very cheap, new Pentax a bargain as well.

The fuji needs work to get the best out of it, - shoot in RAW, watch for CA using tools in Adobe Camera Raw or Lightroom if necessary. The lens is slow f5.3 at full zoom and focusing is not very fast compared to DSLR.

I mainly use the superzoom for the silent shutter, very handy when working close to birds.

The effect of the upscaling on your pics is obvious to me but hey if you are happy, so be it.

From where I sit my Zenfolio slideshow looks OK/fine....I agree that the new fulll-screen viewing mode is much larger, and therefore pics will obviously be a tad softer overall...but, I think most viewers realize that full-screen slideshows won't necessarily be the most optimal way to view web pics.

Check out this gallery slideshow of mine, and IF it looks like $hite -please let me know and I'll uncheck the new viewing option...

Kev, I see the same problem with your gallery, the pics look excellent when viewed in the gallery but look very ordinary in the slide show. It looks like my pain threshold to tolerate pics that have been upscaled is a lot lower than other people.

I use the fine art black theme...I don't have the "uncheck scale images" option for the slideshow on any of my pages.

When I click on page options > slideshow> it says "not available for this layout"

So, I guess I don't have any option with regard to this.

KEV

OK, just found where the setting is...it was kinda hiding on me ;)

I agree, it looks much better un-scaled.

KEV

Now I've confused myself...it looks much better unscaled when I'm viewing the slideshow (logged into Zenfolio) and in the customize VV mode)...but when I now just view the slideshow (logged off)....it still automatically goes into full-screen size and the pics look the same as they did before.

When I hit the Esc button...it simply tunrs off the slideshow...so now there's really no difference than before I 'unchecked' the scale setting...

Weird, confusing,

hmmmm,

KEV

Just got mine to stick.
Did you tick the little "set as default", thingie ?

and I have to say the adjustment to their interface has been daunting.
I can't find the proper link to customize the slideshow to turn off the scaling.

This used to annoy me with Flickr until I learned I could turn that off.

Can you give me some clues to find this adjustment?

Isabel

Isabel, you have to be at gallery level in edit mode, then click customize > slideshow> page options. there is a way to apply this to all galleries but I have forgotten how I did it this morning ...doh!
I'm sure I did this differently this morning, maybe I need some coffee!
