A friend with an Uzi tells me she hasn't found a card reader that
works with XP-Pro. Anyone have a recommendation?
TIA.

I've used both the Omniflash Uno! reader and the Delkin eFilm reader on XP Pro. I got the Omni reader from:

http://store.compuapps.com/omunousbsmar.html

and I got the Delkin reader from Amazon:

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00005JGFL/102-2079983-7423363

Note, I got the Omniflash reader after I discovered that the Linux kernel support for that reader was read-only, but I have now changed my work flow, so I never delete individual pictures from the flash card, I just tell the camera to delete them all after I upload the pictures to the directory I read from in building the web site.

I haven't found any USB device that won't work with XP home or Pro. I can't imagine what your friend means by this. I suspect that he/she might mean that when looking at the specs for a product before buying, that XP Pro may not be listed on the box label...if this is the concern, tell him or her to not worry about it. Most likely Windows will install it's own driver for the device anyway; even if Windows does want a driver provided (highly unlikely), if the device has a driver for Win2000, WinME or Win XP Home, these will work.

It may be that your friend needs to download the latest drivers from the card reader manufacturere to work with XP Pro. I have a PNY CF+SM card reader that was included with a camera purchase at Best Buy a year and a half ago and did this. Iit works fine with XP Pro. XP might say that the software is not officially approved by Microsoft (forget what they call this) but go ahead and install it anyway.

Get the Dazzle USB film reader ...

http://www.buy.com search for Dazzle ... they have it listed twice I don't know why but buy the one that is $15.00 I just bought one it works perfect!

I even use the HEX hack to format non-Oly card for the Panoramic feature.
