A-500 samples at IR now.

Why not? RAW is an option. Raw gives you the best results as You are in command and not the camera. When you want quality shots from your camera in a way You like you have to go RAW!
Not sure I get your point here, RAW is always an option on any DSLR, that does not excuse weak jpeg processing though, jpegs do matter. I don't find it fun having to shoot raw on the A200 all the time, granted at low ISO the jpegs are ok, ISO 400 and up low light, they blow..and badly.
Well maybe not, but maybe there is, you did not design the camera or the software, so just by looking at oter brands and then telling they did it so Sony can do it is a little strange.
Why is it strange? No I did not design the cameras, you are unlucky on that one ;-)

Sony should be looking at other brands, isn't that part of being competitive? Look at how the market leaders, even smaller companies do things, you can learn things from that. But hey, this is Sony, they are too busy back patting themselves ;-)
Sony did put in other options, like face detection, smile detection, auto HDR, DRO etc. all those options take in memory place. Are you sertain that there is enough memory space left for those extra options?
Ah cmon! How did Pentax fit all those options in on the K-x aka customisation etc..did they run out of space?

Truth is Sony spend so much time dumbing these models down, they forgot about the basics, never a good idea. Sure face detection is fine and dandy, but let's get the jpegs and other stuff sorted ist eh??

RAW has other problems. Much larger files. Slower fps. More time wasted in uploading and processing files. RAW is not an answer.
More Amirk nonsense (and he has at last, by the way, admitted use of multiple IDs on the Pentax forum).

RAW files are larger, but that is not a problem. fps rate (on the A700 at least) is not noticeably different using RAW. If the end results are better, it is not time wasted. RAW may not be the answer, but is certainly an answer.

Well I still don't get it. A few years back Sony was flamed for having more noise in high ISO. Comparing pictures of those days, you saw more detail in Sony pictures. Many here cried how Sony blew it big time! Now sony is doing what others did and you are saying Sone blewed again? Please stop wining about this. If you got a real life picture taken at lets say ISO 1600 with cameras from the major brands, I doubt you will be able to name the cameras right!

Why? I'm not in the market for a new camera at the moment. And when you were designing the camera would it be afordable?

And they surely did! One thing is they did not folow the other brands. Good or bad, they are different! I like that.

Yes they did, they "stole" it from the continues shooting buffer. Pentax blew in that department. Just face it there is no such thing as the perfect camera!

Ah your mantra back again. You can't accept Sony is going a different direction then you like. Accept it, go an other brand if you can't.

Looking at the latest sales figures from Japan, looks like the buying public shares my thoughts on the recent models.

Begins with a z and ends with a z ;-)

Sony blew it this time around.

Asking for no and low NR as options for jpeg is ptetty valid. Even A200/A300 had no NR option for jpegs. RAW is not an alternative to no/low NR jpeg. With RAW, I also will have to deal with large files. More time and disk space wasted. Less fps (due to buffer).

Is this possible to realise with a firmware update?? if so what else can be improved on the A500/A550 ?? and when will Sony even be considering to implement this Firmware Update ??? one can wait for ever to something that never will come!!! Look at the A300/A350 they never had any Firmware Update at all !!!!
