Im looking to pick one up soon for a friend. Would appreciate any good deals from reputable sellers. Thanks!

The best price from a reputable dealer was (until Monday night the 16th) Dell Computer. $605.00 for the Canon G2 shipped UPS ground. The price is now $630.00 shipped. We are waiting to purchase 2 at the $500 mark (from a reputable dealer). Should see that once the G3's hits the stores.

What do you guys think about http://www.executivecameras.com? They are only $550 there with a 10 day return.

and to think I purhcased my g2 a few months ago for $799 new.

They also are an authorized dealer....I thought about getting one from them so I called Canon to check!

expect to see quite a slew of last year's models inundating E-bay pretty soon...
 
Best thing to do is to buy at Dell right now using an American Express with Best Value Guarantee. Certain AMEX cards have a pricematch policy where if you buy a product and then find it cheaper elsewhere within 60 days, AMEX will send you a check for the difference in price.

Only select cards have that feature. The Gold cards are typically $75 a year but the Starwood platinum is free for the first year and then $30 a year after that. You get travel and hotel points for every dollar spent.

You can pricematch up to $250 per item for a total of $1000 per year. I bought at Dell for $630 and then found the camera at Broadway photo a few days later for $515. I'll be getting a $115 check from AMEX soon.

$ 550.00 U.S seems to be it right now, expect another $ 100.00 less as dealers clear inventory over the next month. Check with e-bay, often the dealers will clear there and as the new G3 arrives price reserves will drop.

So hope for the $400.00 - 425.00 shortly .... hold off on your purchase for a couple of weeks.

But is $400-425 likely? Did the G1 drop by $100 the moment the G2 was released? $550 seems like a really good price, but I'm willing to wait if it will drop more.
 
They probably stopped making the G2 awhile back (started G3 production) and the reservse will be gone quickly (just guessing but why make more then you need?). I don't expect to see it any lower then $500.

G2 price drop should occur shortly because retailers won't want to deal with returns (people returning them just to get a new low price somewhere else). I know most places have a 10% restocking fee so that is like $50 plus shipping which is about $15 (insured) so even a low of $500 will stop returns.

I just got a G2 this week from http://www.buydig.com . I found them from looking at store ratings on bizrate.com. They had tons of positive ratings.

I ordered it late on Thursday night, shipped Fedex Express Saver, and got it on Monday (ironic, since the G3 came out that day). No problems with the camera, it appears to be totally new.
Cost me ~$575+shipping.

I would wait a bit for the prices to fall if I were you, I needed a new camera right away, so I couldn't wait.

B&H has the G2 at $619.95, if you buy with Amex Gold you can match the price an get a check for $57.95, the lowets price I found was Brodway Photo $562, but dont buy from them, is a gray market store. B&H has a great reputation.

Plus B&H gives you 5-year Mack for $49, while most other places want to stick you with $150 - $200 for it. Mine should be here Monday. (woo-hoo!)
 
It's already happening, and many are new from dealers. Bidding is active, but very low prices ..... mostly reserves are not being met.
