What kind of warranty does Sony offer by getting direct? I definatly plan on getting the F717 also; but refuse to get anything under a 3 year warranty.

What's the general opinion of the MACK warranty program? Is it any good? I noticed that http://www.compuplus.com has the 5 year MACK digital camera warranty for cameras $500 to $1000 for $33.95. I've noticed a lot of other camera shops charge many times that for the same warranty.

I am also tempted to order directly from Sony, but I am waiting for Phil's review of the 717 and the G3. The 717 is out in front of the G3, but I'm waiting to see if the image quality of the G3 (with its new imaging technology-DIGIC) can equal a 5mp camera. Phil, are you listening? When will the reviews come?

And exactly what authority do you represent? Since when can you not get an instant rebate and a mail in rebate on the same purchase. Best Buy does it all the time. The $10 mail-in rebate from Lexar makes no mention of "Offer may not be combined with other promotional certificates". I think Amazon is just referring to promotional codes (like $10 of $100) that you would normally enter at checkout. As for combining with Ebates, that is ALWAYS separate and has nothing to do with promotional codes -- you get 2% discount off your entire purchase...period. If you think I'm wrong, please give specifics.

I did a google search on mack warranties and found no consensus. Some horror stories. I searched Sony's web site for any extended warranty but none was available. Did the 707 come with any cards or offers or references to an extended warranty? I've seen some very, very expensive extended warranties and others less expensive. Up here (north pole alaska) our lifestyle is often tough on gear. In the last 5 years I've replaced three video cameras from the shock of being on the trails or in boats or whatever. It's usually some internal part that gets out of whack. 
So I like extended warranties, it's just a question of which is the best.
I got a memory stick in the post today...but Dell only sent me one of the two 128 mb sticks. They were good and are sending the other without questioning my word. Refreshing. Ok. Now I'm going to go to sleep till Oct. 8. Wake me later.
