Over the weekend heavy rains pelted NYC. I noticed the different lights (cars, street lamps, signs etc) wildly reflecting off the pavement and set out with a golf umbrella in one hand & the 50mm 1.8/D700 in the other. Post processing included Tonal Contrast (Nik Software) ranging from 15 to 30% opacity.

Quips, questions, comments & dry socks always welcome.

I think they're very nice too.

You could almost "pose" someone under the "West End Avenue" (underneath the lighting), maybe lighting a cigarette...and it would look very nice :)

no.3 is also my favourite, I think.

Wow, good stuff. I especially admire your willpower to go out shooting on such a cold rainy night when most of us prefer to be warm and dry at home.

Thank you & I agree a gent in a fedora, smoking a cigarette would have really rounded out #3. Laure Becall lives in the neighborhood - could have used Bogart's ghost that night.

Nice shots!

I was in New York City over the weekend and I couldn't believe that rain storm! I live in Connecticut, yet I cannot remember a storm quite like the one we had all day on Saturday. While I was in town, I did stop by B&H Photo to hold and play with that sweet Nikon D700. What a camera! And it's nice to see the work of such a sweet tool in the hands of someone who knows how to use it so well.

Nice shots!

Great eye, Joe. You really captured it. It especially like the BW treatments in your gallery. Very film noir. Once again you've inspired me to get off my duff and get out shooting. Thanks.

Hi,

some of your pix have a bit too much tonal contrast for my taste. 'Hunan Balcony', is that a Hunan (Chinese province) restaurant?

BR,

Denis
