I just got a K-x in the two lens kit that included the 18-55 mm and 50-200 mm DAL lenses.

I'm shooting in Raw(DNG)+JPEG, and importing into Lightroom 3 Beta.

The images shot with the 18-55 mm lens have a metadata field (in both DNG and JPEG) called lens that lists the lens as "smc PENTAX-DA 18-55mm F3.5-5.6 AL II". So far, so good.

The images shot with the 50-200 mm lens don't appear to have a lens metadata field, and Lightroom lists the lens on those images as "Unknown Lens" (it appears that the lens field isn't there, rather than there and filled in with "Unknown Lens" when I look at the metadata).

Other than the size of the lens, they appear the same in form and build quality, and both are badged "SMC PENTAX DAL." Is this normal? Or is there something off with my 50-200 mm lens? The focal length of the shots is still being correctly recorded.

Nothing wrong with your camera and lens, that is a problem with your software not knowing what the lens is.

Exactly correct, LightRoom does not recognize my 18-55mm WR lens yet.

Ah, so it seems, thanks. I took a look at the files with exiftool, and it reports the same thing Lightroom does for the Lens ID field with the 18-55 mm lens. For the 50-200 mm lens, it claims

Lens ID : Unknown (7 221)

I am using the software that came with the camera, Pentax digital camera utility updated to version 4.11. It recognizes the smc 50-200mm DAL and identifies it in the "image data" display panel as " DA L 50-200mmF4-5.6ED ". It also shows if the SR was ON or OFF.

It is also something I have noticed with the DPreview shots, nothing wrong with your samples of lens/camera... or theirs have the same issue! ;)
