::Weekly Street Photography-December 20th::

Just for comparison here is the picture uploaded to both Picasa and imageshack next to each other. (warning big file)

image hosted for free with http://www.imageshack.us
I posted a picture through picasa "lady with flower" in CP and then noticed it looked quite a bit darker then when I edited the picture. Then i took a screenshot of the image shown in Safari and shown in "quick preview" from Finder in OS X 10.5.8 side by side which is here below, anybody have an idea why this is happening as it makes things VERY difficult to count on.

I find it soothing, though not so telling of the area. This is semi landscape semi SP, would like to see more compelling "story" if one can call it that.

I kinda liked this scene as it reminded me a lot of the work of
a long forgotten dutch painter from the early 20th century.

perhaps I'm blind as a bat, but...
I do not see a single person here,

so it is 100% landscape, pr rather cityscape - quite charming for what it does,

I will simply stick to imageshack for now then. Finances doesn't allow for Flickr subscription or the likes :(
Conclusion - give Picassa a wide berth :(

...for the first 200 pics. Flickr is free too, and to have a limit is
actually very good for one's selectivity and self appraisal ,

a most simple way would be to abandon that account and just to make
yourself a new one (even at a cost of reloading those 20),

indeed.

The weirdness continues however, because if you choose to download the photo from Picasa the colors are once again correct ...

Try it your self here: http://picasaweb.google.com/L.naurholm/Portraits#5418317574660075634
its 2.0MB and colors are correct once downloaded

either they might store the original, but replace it with something when
displaying, or more probably their displaying way is just screwed/weird,
(and personally I don't like GUI there at all, but then I'm rather partial
to well designed GUIs)

My first acquisition of Prime Lens. Not surprisingly the 50mm 1.8 II

1. 4G - 4 Generations - Grandad, Pregnant Mom, Little Girl, Unborn Baby

50mm, 1/500s, F2.8, ISO100

2. Relaxing

50mm, 1/640, F2.0, ISO400
Taken from inside moving vehicle.

Congrats with the new toy. Try and shoot at f/4.5 and up it does shine from f/4.5-8. The first picture is a very good one if you ask me, the 2nd could have used more DOF but you will get a hang of the lens.

I wonder why I did not get any shallow DOF @F2.0
Maybe because I was shooting from inside moving vehicle?

btw, review said that this lens will not succeed for shooting moving targets (or when the shooter is moving). But if I can get 1/640s shutter speed, I don't think it will matter. Or maybe it means by panning? Due to relatively slow AF.

I wonder and wonder.

DOF depends on many factors, so do not despair that you did not get
it as shallow as you wanted:
  • go to DOF Master page and play with WDs (working distances) and various apertures, to see how much you'd get in front and at the back of your target at each focusing distance;
  • with practice it will (quite quickly) be your second nature;
  • so, patience, and exercise :).

no, not very likely, AF on 85/1.8 is pretty quick (at least compared to 85/1.2),
but to be able nail focus at f/2 and moving target (or when you move) needs
tons of practice,
